Update on the Ancona babies. I incubated the 7 egg capacity of the Brinsea. Considering how active the babies are, my next batch will be limited to 4 to give them room to crawl around. 4 hatched successfully, 1 piped and died, the last 2 did not pip at all. I gave the three eggs about 60 hours before pulling the plug. One will have to feather out to be sure which sex it is, it doesn't look like the two black drakes and yet it doesn't look like the brown hen either. Oh well I have 4 beautiful babies that started out at less than two ounces except tubby who weighed 2.15 oz. They empty their food dish, spill their water and poop all over like any other baby.

I think the two that were internally pipping are not doing well. I made a safety hole as Quakers babies tend to be malpositioned.

I may have to get you on the phone when the time comes in a couple weeks. Two of her eggs are in the 'bator and one looks like it has two heart beats. Not good news from what I understand. Its been three days since we checked so tonight is another candle night.

Well everybody is still alive but no one's coming out. One had internally pipped 24 hours so I made a safety hole. Then I made it a little bigger to see if it was still chewing. It has internally pipped butt first. So now it's butts hanging out one end of the egg and I had to make a saftey hole in the small end cause it's head was where there was no air. It's still alive but not as lively as the others. There's a peep fest when I go talk to them they are all still here. Don't know if they will all make it, today is day 28 and they have been pipped 48 hours. I will sit up with them tonight. I had one in the last batch that pipped upside down, it didn't make it. If I get all of them, it will be my first 100% hatch. Given at least three of the 5 are malpositioned and I bred two of Quackers kids, I believe it to be in her genes.

No need, 4are out now, 3 were malpositioned and needs help. The 5th one is lonely now and chirping its head off. I hadn't gotten too worried yet but the 4th made me sweat for 70 hours. The one left I set over 12 hours after the others so I don't expect to see him until tonight. Their grandmother had some malpositioned eggs, so I was expecting it. Once they are ready, they begin to distress peep and you know it's time to peel them out.
