I'm waiting to see what my EE girls and OE girls are gonna lay... Will be fun to see! Their faces are starting to redden so should be soon!
I just saw someone else talking about their hens faces reddening...I'd never heard of that, so I had to look it up. I will be watching my ladies for that sign and according to the chicken chick, the submissive squat. The roosters are ready, but the hen's aren't having any of it, makes for a very noisy pen...lol! Can't wait to see the eggs they give you!

Hi, all! I have a question for all the brahma owners. Is it normal for the comb and wattles to come in pretty prominently for a pullet at 5 weeks old? I have a 5 week old buff brahma and it suppose to be a pullet but I was surprised to see the wattles coming in. Not sure if this is normal for a pullet at that age or if I have a roo on my hands. I know 5 weeks is pretty early to tell sex though!

If you can share a pic I can give you an answer, but normally big combs no matter breed before 4 months is a sign of boy. A picture will show posture, feathers and comb situation better 🥰

Thank you for that info. I honestly never paid attention to my Banty's (well, I did watch them to make sure they were healthy), but they were just pets and while we enjoyed the cute little eggs, I wasn't watching the clock for when they would start laying!

Cotton is beautiful and yes I think your babies liked the watermelon!!! :love

Your welcome!! last year i learned that and when a girl squats down and wags her tail it means she thinks you're her rooster. LOL!! :gig things that dont stand out but are like a beacon once you know are fun to learn!!

I'm going to try and get more watermelon later this week. since every plant i touch dies i have to depend on local stores and such for fresh produce :( not so fun.

Went and did a little drive to see how it would go and not too bad! (anxiety makes it hard to drive far) But this little guy (the pup...not the kid  )
IMG_20200701_132533436.jpg
was on the side of the road and me and some ladies posted him that he was lost... (to be honest the condition he was in tells me more likely he was dumped) but Texas says we have to post for 72 hrs. I agreed i'd take him home and care for him till owners are found. Oh my goodness!!! the amount of mud, burrs and vermin coming off this pup was AWFUL!!! It's skin was WHITE! from anemia. Totally lethargic, got some worming meds into it, ordered special spray to help with fleas, ticks, and mites since it's only 5 weeks old....we soaked some dry food and got it mushy for it and started getting water in him. He's now bouncing around like a bunny at my feet. Kids already named him Snowball.
He's met the Girls and the feeling is mutual "what in the world is THIS!!!??" :lau :gig we're keeping him separate from all animals since he's still infested for now and no telling if he has anything else going on....just really upsets me when animals are treated this way! I always try to find homes when animals just don't sync up or mesh well with us. ....hubs said "well that's a cool birthday surprise" LOL he's right.

As far as chickens... Zebra has started her egg call!!! any day now for her first egg! i'm hoping the others will chime in too!! So bunch of exciting stuff here.
