2022 Chick Order From Mount Healthy Hatchery

Best wishes to all of you! Waiting is so hard! I am waiting for chicks to ship in late April, too. I am replying because when I was a kid, we used to drive past Mt. Healthy Hatchery. I always wanted to stop, and (for some reason!?) my parents never wanted to stop the car full of wriggly, badly behaved kids instead of finishing their grim trip up to visit grandparents! I still feel very fond about the place!

What did you order and where did you order from?

I ordered from Meyers Hatchery, also in Ohio. I ordered:
3 Buckeye Hens, 2 Golden Buff hens and they are throwing in 1 Mealmaker hen to be announced later. (I trust they really will all be hens, but you never know. I also hope for low mortality rates, but again... ) I don't know why I didn't think to try Mt. Healthy!

I just received a batch of 10 + 1 bonus from Mt. Healthy and couldn’t be more pleased with them. All birds doing great and I have another post showing pics of them. Got 1 male and 1 female Bielefelder in the group. Plus, I suspect that the bonus chick was another female Bielefelder too. I checked out about 20 different hatcheries and Mt. Healthy had the best selection for hatcheries able to ship less than 25 chicks during winter. Didn’t want to wait until winter to get my first eggs from the hens if I waited until April when I could get less chicks. Pics here:

In my opinion, silkies stay adorable their whole lives. Even their "scruffy" phase is cute lol!

I totally agree! But I do love the tiny chick stage !

What a great selection! We just got some Bielefelder through McMurrays and they’re such great chicks already. Love being held (important with kids ). Finally snagged some local lavender Orpingtons too and was super excited. Good luck on your wait!

That is great to hear, a friend swears by them- I am looking to up the lap chicken category as I need more chicken snuggles in my life and I hope they fall into that category along with the others we selected!

We got them for one of our kids, to replace her roo we couldn’t keep. Friendly is our top requirement

I love that picture- I pretty much have the same photo- but I have 30 years on her lol- love that chicken keeping is a hobby for young and old!!
