2023/2024 Emu Hatch-A-Long

Nice! Only 50ish days to go! The wait is sooooo long!

I've seen his videos. If these don't hatch, I'll check in there or wait for another year. I took some pictures today of the eggs. They all lean, but still can only get wiggles from 3 of them for certain. The others I sometimes think I do then I think its just my eyes or the light playing tricks. The 3 that do move are very obvious and do not need any whistling or coaxing. If I set them out on the table they start right up!

Have you tried the trick of putting a coin on them? If the coin falls off, then it wasn't just your eyes tricking you, haha.

Haven't tried that one!
Tried that with no luck. Feeling fairly unhopeful on 6 of the 9. Tell me, in your experience hatching if you see the tilt to the egg and all eggs passed day 40, no wiggle witnessed, would you expect them to hatch? Temps have consistently been between 96.5 and 97.5. Humidity around 30 to 35%.

So last year I had a power outage about a week after I put eggs in and it was out for about 19 hours. I thought for sure no eggs would hatch.

A couple wiggled around day 40 though so I left them all in.

And then, over a period of about a week, nearly all of them hatched, even the ones that I had never seen move.

Some just don't wiggle. Don't give up! They might hatch even if they don't move.

Oh wow! That's great you still had a good hatch! How many did you have in and how many hatched? How many years have you been hatching emu?

I am trying to stay hopeful and will definitely leave them in unless they start to stink until day 60 or more. It's hard though when the 3 are so readily active and the others just sit there like bumps on a log 🤣

How many years have you been hatching emu?

Six years, which is crazy to think about! Doesn't feel like it's been that long, haha.

I can't remember - I probably put it in my emu chat thread or the hatch-a-long thread for last year, I'll have to go check and see if I put the final numbers in.

I have 6 eggs in the incubator. 3 from my own emus and 3 from a breeder. I have only found four eggs from my own emus and one was stinky so I didn’t try to hatch that one. The eggs went in the incubator in mid January, so it’ll be awhile before they hatch. My emus live in a 2.5 acre pasture and they are good at hiding eggs, so I suspect they might have laid more and I just haven’t found them.

It was weight day. I converted to grams. I know target loss is around 15% but have read up to 20% is possible and still hatch. Anyone with more experience want to review and chime in? B1, C1, D1 are the only confirmed wiggles. They are always moving!

Did they all go in at the same time or staggered? What are your hopeful hatch windows? What colors?
