I think science channel is one of the few uncorrupted channels left. ya they have survivor man but at least he puts effort into surviving in the wild, unlike the copy cat man vs wild and other survival shows.

what happened to TV i remember when you learned more about the cultures, civilizations, or history of the world in two hours watching Discovery, History or TLC then you learned all year in school.

TLC still stands for The Learning Channel and used to rival Discovery on content about animals or world history. Old people used to tell ya TV rots your brain back in the early 90's . the stuff on now I'm sure will.

Another Y2K... give me a break, the Mayans couldn't see their own demise let alone the world's.

Excellent point!

I always thought the Mayans would have to stop their calendar somewhere, so why not on 12/21/12? Or, maybe they were in the midst of continuing it when their own society ended? Or, the guy who was calculating it and/or carving it died? Why does it have to mean that it was intended to be the date the world ends?

Well, there you go. I didn't know any of this, so thanks for the informative post. But, I knew it had to be something along these lines.

The biggest trouble for me is that no one makes documentaries to inform any more. I'll go watch BBC videos on YouTube and David Attenborough any more if I want a real documentary. All I've seen from most USA filmmakers in the last 10-20 years is WOW WOW OH BOY EXCITEMENT garbage and finger wagging at me for "killing the planet." In the 70s and 80s Nat'l Geographic made great films. Now, not so much.

Exactly what I was thinking. The Mayans were brilliant people, and I'm sure there's a logical explanation other than the end of the world as to why they stopped graphing their calendar. Not to mention, the Gregorian system we use is very different than theirs, therefore the world was supposed to 'end' about ten to fourteen months ago.

yep Mayans didn't have leap seconds, minutes, hours, days or years. so technically the Mayan calender and world ended like September 23, 2011

Animal Documentaries back then also didn't submit to sensitive people over stuff think showing someone using a gun to kill a animal or to tranquilize it. you seen the whole thing not a cut scene with commentary "hes gonna shoot it, camera pans away *gunshot*, camera pans back to dead animal. Back then it was the director didn't need to tell you how uncomfortable a scene can be, you just seen it.

The best answer to date for the dissapearance of the Mayans is disease. Without the knowledge of properly dealing with waste and quite frankly dead bodies they were very succeptable to disease.

Isnt that what we are trying to do with the Mayan calender? There are many end of world predictions in many past culters.

Well, I'm not. I don't know enough about the Mayans to judge whether they could predict accurately whatever it might be over such a long period of time. Rather than spend my time on such things, I use it to get on with my life.

On the 21st we are going Christmas shopping at the mall. Lol

I highly doubt that the world is going to end. What would be the cause? And you would think by now, considering its 18 days away, we would have noticed some sign of the world ending. They predicted the world would end in 2000 too. And we are all still here! :D

One of the best BBC documentaries is Time Team, where a group of archeologists and historians excavate ancient sites. They have uncovered many fascinating traces of mankind in UK dating back to neolithic times. Don'tknow if there are any examples on utube, but if there are they are well worth watching.
