.22 "rat shot" cartridges as dog deterent?

Welcome, @HanSolozMama !
Responding to an old thread, usually not so useful.
And in many states, intentionally injuring a dog is animal abuse. Killing one who's attacking livestock is permitted. Look up regulations where you live! Dog owners are responsible for any damage caused by their animal too. In many places, 'strays' are owned dogs allowed to run free, who form packs, a dangerous situation. Eliminating them may be the best anyway.
And good fencing is important to protect the chickens! Especially electric fencing, if allowed where you live.

Thanks. I didn't see how old the post was, i just happened upon it. And I have pretty decent fencing, not electric because I am not a fan. I have seen many issues with it when my grandfather used it on his farm. There were many times animals got stuck and electrocuted and another time where a snapped wire had been laying in a small body of water (permanent puddle lol) and my brother, not realizing the break, actually got zapped doing some digging about ten ft from the actual fence. Just have a dislike for it whether it's a valid or illogical reasoning. And I live in Atascosa county in Texas. There are barely any restrictions or codes here. Anything on your property you can shoot, person or otherwise, no leash laws. You can build a house from the ground up, plumb it, and run all the electrical yourself with no license or permits of any kind. Call the city and tell em to come plug you in and you need a water meter so you can hook up to the city line and that's that. But they would laugh if I tried to have someone pay for some damages from their dog. They'd wonder how to prove that, prove it was the dog, prove who's it is.. they'd say... oh well shoulda shot it
