We were given 20 chicks from the 4H Poultry Club 24 weeks ago. They’re suppose to be all females. We have 14 or so that are laying so far. My dad who lives beside us said he heard a rooster crowing the other day. There is no way it’s a neighbor because we don’t have any neighbors for a mile. I checked some eggs and they appear to be fertilized, picture below. So my question is this, wouldn’t we be able to tell a rooster by 24 weeks. While we are new at this, surely that would be obvious. If these eggs Pictured are indeed fertilized how in the world did we miss this?!? I have felt for a while that it might be a possibility and my 4 oldest kids check the chickens 5 or 6 times a day and I do once or twice as well. Surely this age you could tell fairly easily. We have 4 New Hampshire Red, 4 Columbian Wyandotte, 4 naked necks- two black, one light red, one- darker red, 2- Partridge Plymouth Rock, 4- Blue Astralourp - all the pictures I have looked up all look like
Hens. What am I missing?!?
