We were given 20 chicks from the 4H Poultry Club 24 weeks ago. They’re suppose to be all females. We have 14 or so that are laying so far. My dad who lives beside us said he heard a rooster crowing the other day. There is no way it’s a neighbor because we don’t have any neighbors for a mile. I checked some eggs and they appear to be fertilized, picture below. So my question is this, wouldn’t we be able to tell a rooster by 24 weeks. While we are new at this, surely that would be obvious. If these eggs Pictured are indeed fertilized how in the world did we miss this?!? I have felt for a while that it might be a possibility and my 4 oldest kids check the chickens 5 or 6 times a day and I do once or twice as well. Surely this age you could tell fairly easily. We have 4 New Hampshire Red, 4 Columbian Wyandotte, 4 naked necks- two black, one light red, one- darker red, 2- Partridge Plymouth Rock, 4- Blue Astralourp - all the pictures I have looked up all look like
Hens. What am I missing?!?

it can happen...also, some males are "hen feathered" but, I don't think any of your breeds are known for this.

Bu this age, there should be male saddle feathers showing up - they are the ones that get a bit longer and tend to hang down and are pointy - they are present before the tail starts.
Here is my head rooster and the arrow pointing to his saddle feathers. He is 1 year old in picture, so more saddle feathers than yours will have.

I’m so confused becaue if I’m understanding things correctly we have like 4 roosters

All females, except....

Photos of that Colombian Wyandotte please. That's a male face if ever I did see one.
@Overo Mare.

The rest are girls, undoubtedly.
That's the only one here I can't clearly see the saddle area on. The rest appear to be pullets. I see a few do have messy feathers that make it look as if they've been bred.
