$25K for a breeding pair?

NO one said he was using them for illegal purposes. Aren't you putting the cart before the horse? There is a lot of people in the U.S. that have Gamefowl. There are a lot of people like the look some show them at poultry shows and I know that American Game hen's will out lay any Hybrid chicken you get at a hatchery...

What about the people that sell there Old English, Old English Game Bantams, Modern Game, Modern Game Bantams and Aseel's do you want to flag them also?

I agree, you said it a lot nicer than I was about to Chris.. Getting kind of annoyed at all of the people on this forum who never stop to think people may want to raise games for more than just cockfighting.

Lines like this sell for that much because they are excellent lines, even in other breeds. Have you seen Greenfirefarms sussex? I know of at least three different people who paid 3,000 dollars without a second though for a trio of YOUNG birds.. I'm not saying these game lines are worth that much, but to some it could be. I personally would never pay that much, or charge that much for a bird when you can get birds for a lot cheaper that are just as good if not better.. Like me, I plan to breed the best I can- I don't plan to charge more than 200 tops for a pair or so. That's shipped.. I'm just not into raising birds for money.

I raise the games because they're beautiful, I love their personalities, and they are pretty much just "in my blood". Like my signature says, my great grandfather, grandfather, grandmother, and father all owned the gamefowl. I don't see why people feel it is right to boycott my birds but they should be allowed to do whatever they want with theirs just because they're fluffy.

ETA: And this isn't directed at you really, Farmer_Dan.. It is something that goes on all the time here.

I was biting my tong the whole time...

I think it might have been a lot nicer that what Cuda would have said all so..

He looks torn up(sick?), why would you pay more then $50 for a bird unless it's a show/rare bird? I have OEGB's and actually keep them for looks, I love my roo;)

I think he is a nice looking hatch personally.. The main thing about him is his messed up tail feathers, but personally I wouldn't worry too much about it. That can happen in a breeding pen, by accident, etc. Doesn't look droopy or skinny, has a bright red face signifying he has good health and is typically good stance. Probably even looks better in person, it's hard to judge birds by just a photo.

You should look around and see what some people will pay for hatching eggs...

Take a look at what a real good breeding pare of Show Birds (R.I.Reds, Orps. what ever breed) run I think you might be real surprised..

Chris

Looked on this site and on eggbid but the most expensive I could find was still around $100... Can you point me to a site or something that has chickens going for thousands of dollars each?

It's not "thousands of dollars each," but did you see the auction for the buff laced brahma hatching eggs here just last week? If you don't add shipping into the cost, you're looking at $89 per chick. And that's only if all 12 of them hatch! Due to unforeseen circumstances during shipping or incubation, there's a possibility that not a single one would hatch and then the person who won that auction will have paid $1070 and have nothing to show for it. There's also a chance that some of the chicks that did hatch wouldn't survive to maturity.

Ultimately, its' up to each individual to decide what they are willing to spend their money on. The buff laced brahmas (and the silver laced brahmas that sold for over $600 for hatching eggs) are drop-dead gorgeous birds, but chickens for me are supposed to be a "cheap" hobby and while the pictures of those birds makes me drool all over my keyboard they are certainly not worth that kind of money to me. Even if I had won the lottery, I probably still wouldn't be willing to pay that much for chickens or hatching eggs. But then again, the amount of money I'd be willing to drop on a purebred dog of a particular breed from particular lines (if I had it) would probably leave many dog lovers rolling their eyes and wondering who would want to spend that much on a dog. It comes down to what someone's willing to spend. There may be someone out there who would be happy to pay what this seller is asking for his birds.

If his birds are a good representation of their breed ( which I have no clue of ) and the people know what they are buying, I hope he does get the $ 250.00 and $ 200.00 he is asking.

I love it when people get high prices for their eggs and birds( unless I am trying to bid on them ). Yes we have chickens because we love them and we breed because we love them and if you can get good money for birds, hatching eggs, eating eggs, it helps you continue what you love.
