I have 15 hens, 5 RR, 5 golden Comet and 5 Buff Orpington. they were all hatched in March (not the same week tho). I am getting about 4-6 eggs a day. I feel that at this point I should be getting 10 eggs a day at least. Most have plump red combs, a couple do not. Isn't that an indicater of egg laying or maturity? Should I get rid of some or should I just wait and see if some are just late maturing hens??

Rhonda, I'd wait a bit longer. Some birds mature more slowly for different reasons, it seems a lot of people are having this same problem. Plump red combs can be a sign of maturity but not always an indication of egg laying. Check her pelvic bones, if they're still closed she isn't ready, if you can fit two-three fingers between them she's probably laying or about to. Since you have both type of hens, I imagine you will notice the difference pretty easily

Thanks Daniel! I will try and checkthem tonight when they come in to roost!

Some birds just need a little longer before they start laying!
Good luck!
