First time raising baby chicks - I have only ever cared for adult hens. Several have had pasty butt, which we have been trying to remove with a warm wet washcloth. Today while cleaning “Jenny” I noticed that after removing the pasty butt, her vent is bloody. It will occasionally pulsate as well, but stops when she is resting. Was I too rough when removing the pasty butt? Or is it a prolapsed vent? I applied some petroleum jelly with a q-tip and she pooped shortly after, with no pasty butt or issues. But I’m concerned about the blood. She’s acting fine, but I want to do what I can to prevent further issues. I’m already so attached to these girls.
