3 Legged Chick

I read somewhere on here where on fella got a goodly number of 3 legged chicks from McMurray last spring and all of them died.

Must be a genetic defect that one of their breeders continues to pass on.

Hey I wouldn't do it myself, just put it out there as an option. I am sure it is painful, probably for a calf too! I very much doubt the 3rd leg is functional or attached to the rest of the skeleton, most deformities like this are just kind of hanging there.

Yes it is kind of hanging there. but it does "twitch" sort of when the bird chirps.

Actually, it very likely is attached to the skeleton. Tripod's leg was fuctional for a short period of time, but it eventually contractured (being bent and unable to move) which led to atrophy (wasting away of the muscle, making it impossible for it to ever move again). Tripod actually does have a third hip, explaining why her tail is skewed to the right...

I really hope she doesn't die.

Chin up! As long as she is walking around, peeping, eating, and (especially) pooping, I am sure she will be just fine. It may take her a while to master the whole walking-with-three-legs thing, but I am sure she will eventually figure it out.

LOL Kelly. We have felt her over and over again and the verdict stands... She's a Hippie.

Here are a few more pics of her as a chick if you need them Dan...

This 3 legged chick thing is sooo cool! I want one.....or two! I hope that Tripod survives chickhood. I wonder what it would be like to have 3 legs......................
