City Chick 2020
Chirping
Hi everyone! I raised 8 australorps (6 black and 2 blue) recently hoping for 4 hens (fisrt time having chickens since I was a late teen). 1 unfortunately had to be put down from an unknown neurological problem but of the remaining 7 I think I have ended up with 4 Roos and 3 hens. I am attaching pics of them at 9 weeks and a final one of them now, at 3 months). Even though the combs make it seem obvious to me, I just don’t want to send a hen away thinking it is a roo!! Only one (number 3) is crowing yet and then only twice in the last fortnight. But the ones I suspect are roos (1, 3, 4 and 6) all started using the perch first while the other three slept on the ground for ages. The tiny one has always just been tiny but tries to hang with the suspected roos a lot. Hm... I think that is all? Oh, and the three suspected hens are much more timid than the suspected roos.
Given that the tiny one might never lay (?????) I was thinking of sourcing a point of lay to add to the flock - but you have to do that in pairs don’t you.
Still thinking it all through.
Thank you so much for any help!!
