I got a few chicks from a feed store in September. About half of them don't seem to be what the store told me they were but it was hard to tell when they were so small. I was told these two were both Bantam "Rainbow layers" which I know is not a breed. I know that one of these is a rooster as he's already started crowing. However, the other one is twice as big as the rooster, has a terrible temperament and has some features of a roo but has yet to crow. Could she be a roo too? I have attached pictures of both. The lighter brown with the dark tail and large comb is the one I know for sure is a roo. The darker brown one is the one I'm confused about. Also, does anyone think they could give me a breed?

Not sure, I'd say it's a pullet but she could just be a late bloomer. You'll be able to see for sure in -at the latest- two months. Ask again in about a month and watch her closely. She could just be a fierce big lady.

The first one looks like a d'uccle mix cockerel, most likely mixed with a bantam polish. The second one looks like a sebright mix cockerel, possibly mixed with a d'uccle and/or a bantam brahma.

Both of them are so pretty! I love mixed breeds. :love

I've watched when all the neighborhood roosters are crowing and mine jumps in but the other doesn't even seem to notice. Wouldn't that one be crowing or at least trying to?

Interesting! This is all such good information. He/she is definitely boss of the flock. It's a real jerk to the others. Which is why I originally questioned its gender

A lower ranking cockerel will not crow in the presence of an Alpha because it would be beaten up. If one is aggressive, to people, it shouldn't be in the running at all.
