3 Week old Pekin problems

I am still looking, but have seen a concerning trend already...

@barnababy have you contacted Metzer about this issue? From some of what you describe, it sounds like seizures she is having... there's been many from Metzers in the last year that have had issues, if Metzers isn't aware of an ongoing issue (not saying it is, just that there could be a correlation) then they can't fix it... I would also ask them if there is a possibility of non-crested ducks coming from crested lines... there may be genetic issues not visible... just brainstorming here, off to search some more...

What your describing @barnababy is very strange. I ordered 15 female ducklings from metzer last march and never had one problem. Is your duckling just a pekin or a jumbo pekin because jumbo pekins can have weight issues. Like @Ravynscroft I'm just brain storming.

Still searching, the specific thread I am looking for had an odd title, lol...

Just to be clear, I am not badmouthing Metzers, but even as I search I am seeing a lot of incidents where people have gotten orders from Metzers and 1 has had seizures/issues... Metzers needs to be contacted when things like this happen in case there is something in a line or lines they need to check into/address...

Also, there has been an upswing in issues with Pekins across the board last couple years, not just Jumbos, but regular Pekins... I have an odd visual memory, so these are things I have seen as issues members have brought up... unfortunately, my memory isn't perfect (not quite visually eidetic, but close) so I am relying on hit or miss search terms... :hmm

Luckily, Ive never had any problems with my jumbo pekin hen from metzer. However, I rescued a Jumbo pekin drake from a retention pond by a lowes parking lot and his legs are very bowed and were very weak when I first brought him home. I suspect he was raised on white bread and that's why he has leg issues, but since I've been feeding him a proper diet his legs have gotten stronger. Of course, I don't know where he is originally from.

I did have one issue with my metzer order though. I ordered a dutch hook bill hen, but did not receive one with my order. And when I asked them about it they said they were having problems with the fertility of their eggs.

Metzers is reliable, and fertility/non-hatchers happen... that's why I wonder if non-crested from crested lines might be used to fill an order sometimes... nothing wrong with that either, just trying to figure out if there is an underlying cause/reason for one in a group to have issues...

ETA: I will be back to search more, have to go haul more water... my water bowls keep freezing and birds are drinking fast to keep up with it, lol...

I'm feeding all for a starter Growers crumble feed. It's the same one I've given all of my ducks and this is the only time I've had this problem and it's just in the 1 - I have two Runners, Cayuga, and then the Pekin.
I'm giving her B complex liquid droppers into the water, brewer's yeast and water, and niacin crushed and put over her food. And it's been now I think 3 days up in her niacin this way with not yet much Results. Each day certain things seem a bit better While others seem worse and they go back and forth, and this is the first day of that I've not seen any new symptoms.

Niacin should be dissolved in water not on food... but how much are you giving of each every day? I do still think Miss Lydia's advice is best, brewers yeast mixed in her food 1tblspn per cup of feed and the Vitamin B Complex...

I couldn't find the thread I was searching for, will keep trying though...

Also, the stiffening up she is doing is a seizure... holding her and keeping her calm through those should help...

@Ravynscroft I did have 2 cayuga females I bought from Metzers that had seizures and I posted a thread about it on here. Ill see if I can find it. There was at least one other person that posted on the thread with a cayuga duckling with seizures although I don’t remember where they got them from. Both of the ducklings were bought weeks apart. And one had a seizure the day it arrived. I assumed it was because they were so young and their nervous systems weren’t fully developed. But mine grew out of it and are perfectly healthy now. Like you said, I have no complaints with Metzers. They were great. I just figured it was something that happens from time to time.
