New to chicken coop world. Just received our new chicks yesterday in the mail. They are now 3 days old, we have lost 2 and 1 is on her way out. I just added sugar to their waterer( 1 packet to 1 guart of water). Any other suggestions?

Make sure they know how to find the water by dunking just the tip of the beak in it. Make sure their brooder has an area at 90 degrees and a cooler area. Take some chick crumbles and make a wet mash, or take the crumbles and hammer or grind them smaller. Sometimes they look like they're eating, but the crumbles are too big.
I would try to not put anything in their water. You might want to put some yogurt on your finger and see if they like it.

So I shouldn't use the sugar water? They were all eating and drinking yesterday. The brooder is 92-95 degrees with a plenty of space to move away from the heat lamp. I will try moistening the feed. I will keep you posted. Thanks so much.

So, my poor baby chick is still alive, barely. Don't know what else to do for her. Think scrambled eggs would help? How about trio vi sol?

I'd give her scrambled eggs. Trio visol would be fine, but don't give too much (1 drops would be good).

Polyvisol has more vitamins in it, especially the B's. There are packets of electrolyte/vitamin packets for the water available at the feed store for chicks, too. Murray Mcmurray Hatchery sometimes recommends sugar in the water for stressed chicks.

I'm happy to report that my sickly chick is doing better. I gave her some scrambled eggs, and water. Not sure which helped, but she's so much better. Definitely the runt in the group. Did start them on duramycin-10 added to their water(1/4 tsp/gallon), recommended by tractor supply employee. Any thoughts on this? How long should I do this? Thanks for all the help.
