Quote:I'm quite certain we can supply you with more than one good reason to hatch. I was worried that it was the dead of winter here and a horrible time to hatch, but in fact I had almost POL pullets for the first swap in spring which went very quickly... and some were turkens, not a fast mover 'round these parts. I also threw all the kids out into the coop in mid February, everyone was fine.

So, my neighbor called--she had a few duck eggs for me (dare I put them in the bator?) AND she wanted to tell me my chocolate(dun?) silkie grandbabies had hatched. I went over and all 4 eggs had hatched under two silkie mommas.

The silkie mommas are extremely happy with the babies. If only I knew how to get the pics from my phone to the computer....

ETA: These are the 'rents of the new babies:

Why wouldn't you put the duck eggs into your incubator?

How can you not love this:

Because the DH says no ducks.

ANd since I need him to prcess 3 turkeys tomorrow, I shouldn't push my luck right now.

Takes 28 days, does it not? In man-memory that's eons.

So let him process the turkeys, then put the eggs in the bator.

LOL! My first bird was a goose named Peeper. He was a gift for my 12th birthday. I dig the geese.

I had a goose when I was younger (Duck-Duck). S/he used to chase my sister around and one day bit her on the butt as she was trying to climb over the fence into the horse corral to get away from the goose. The goose didn't let go. My dad's friend had Duck-Duck for dinner.

Then a few months ago I got 3 goslings (one pictured above). Raised by a broody mom, no human contact, those things were pure evil. The second they had a chance they split. The feeling was mutual.

But if you raise them yourself?
