3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

I'm quite certain we can supply you with more than one good reason to hatch. I was worried that it was the dead of winter here and a horrible time to hatch, but in fact I had almost POL pullets for the first swap in spring which went very quickly... and some were turkens, not a fast mover 'round these parts. I also threw all the kids out into the coop in mid February, everyone was fine.

LOL, I'm not worried about you finding a good reason to hatch... My problem is, the roo I want chickies from is 7 weeks old, and I doubt he will be anywhere near wooing the ladies in 5 more weeks.

and, and, I have a goose named Gerrymander! We have the best conversations! Never knew a goose would be soo much fun.

What breed of roo?

Mahonri...If I were you.....I would hatch just because! I should have some fertile eggs by then, have a couple new girls laying in last few days since "cooler" temps, just need NoSkivees (my roo) to do his job (he is a trooper) but I want something new too, (NYD is my birthday), so I think I need to buy some early B-day eggs......shhhhh....don't tell....

An orpington. I'm thinking, if the pullets don't lay eggs until they are ~ 7 months old, the roos probably mature slower too. Not sure if my reasoning is good or not.

I also have a hatchery quality barnyard mutt roo, whom I'd rather not allow to reproduce. Wonder if I could talk DH into buying some eggs??

Nope. We got about 3 inches of very wet and heavy snow after all the hype (6 to 18 inches predicted). Did lose power for about 18 hours. 24 degrees this morning but anticipating highs in the 40s. Should be melted soon.

At least I got to preview the ducks reaction to the snow... they loved it. Cute duck prints all over the snow.
