My first time with an incubator too.

Got quite a few black copper Marans, ordered lemon cuckoo Orphs from Fancy Chick and she was kind enough to throw in some lavender and blue Orphs for my little girl! Some Americanas from the guy down the street and I'm going to throw in some of my Barred Hollands. That brought my total to 37, but I've been discussing with my son how we may be able to fit even more.... Now that I've spotted some 'cute as all get out" bantams at my neighbors place. Hmmmmm Tetris, is it?

So tell me why I put eggs in the incubator again?

It's DECEMBER. In MONTANA. I have 35 chickens, most being pullets too young to lay; the rest are in molt. 16 ducks. 4 geese. 2 quail.

WOULD SOMEONE LAY AN EGG??? I'm lucky if I get 2-4 eggs a day.

Sigh.

Because you love to see the miracle of baby chicks hatching. So it is winter, if you hatch now they start laying that much sooner. It will give you something to do indoors on a cold day. Sounds like you really need a laying flock. Hatch on!

I'm in! 8 BCM's and 6 who know's what from my flock! Should be interesting, my roo's are both banties but the rest of my flock is not. Gotta love surprises!

Hey Aspen! I heard that alfalfa can help get them laying better so I put some of the alfafa pellets in with their feed today. Mine are mostly laying, but not like they were before the cold snap hit. I had some alfalfa on hand for the goats. Worth a try.
