I have a question. It's in the 20s at night here and where I'm shipping to...Should I tape a hot hands or 2 to the lid for a little bit of extra warmth for the eggs at night? Or should I just send 'em w/o any added heat?

Hmmm... I dunno... but I now I know that I'm not getting eggs from you.

From someone in Maine, I would say they're fine. I'm getting shipped eggs and not worried about them. It takes a lot colder than 20 for them to freeze.

I'd say the unpredictable heat from the hot hands would probably be worse than cool before incubation.

Also adding: I had a broody last Dec/Jan that left her eggs in mid incubation for a couple of hours each day cause she couldn't figure out which nest was hers. The eggs would often be very cold when I got home from work. 75% hatched just fine.

Cold is just fine during shipping. Don't worry about the hot packs.

Though fluctuating temps. and unpredictable heat will not effect them either. They are made for it.

Thanks for the info....first time egg shipper here....if ya can't tell.

Today I found a nest outside with 3 silkie eggs in it. I popped them in the incubator....it's been in the low 20s at night here and it sleeted 2 days ago. So far with silkie eggs, I've had 100% fertility rate....hopefully these are still good.
