ChickNLittle -

Thanks. I'm thinking that what I read is the same as people assuming that certain breeds of dogs are dangerous when really it's about how they are raised, and not so much just the breed. So thank you. Getting myself in trouble for that comment, but as said, I assumed that giving them attention is what is the deal

My chickens have always had plenty of attention. I let my dogs out every 3-4 hours to potty and I usually go see the chickens and give them attention at the same time. So mine are never without attention. In fact, right now I think that Lily (my Buff Orp) is telling me leave her alone most of the time since after her sis passed a couple days ago, I've been giving her even MORE attention so she does't get lonely. I think part of her enjoys it, but at the same time says enough!

Thanks for the different kind of combs...I was wondering too. How do you tell on the chicks what kind of comb they have? I'm not seeing much of anything in thoses pics of the chicks.

It's experience mostly- looking at a lot of chicks.

In the first picture of the chicks you can see the first few teeth on the comb. It's narrow and has one row of teeth- definately a single comb.

Pea and rose combs look wide and flat on chicks.

Pea combs have three ridges which show up more clearly as they grow. If you have good eyes you may be able to see them even on a very young chick.

Rose combs are more flat and should have a point on the end pointing away from the beak.

Thanks for the reply. I'm gonna post more pics of their differences (and closeups) to possibly help everyone after this. I'm thinking the same. Only time will tell. I've never even heard of Welsummers, but looking them up they do look like they could be that also. I thought this was gonna be easy

to tell what they were. Now it's getting harder once I see all the different breeds they resemble
