My understanding was that these ducklings were hatched by a broody hen. Are high temps a problem with broodies?

Which most likely means it is not related to a temp spike. My understanding was that these ducklings were hatched by a broody hen. Are high temps a problem with broodies?

True, I guess I should have thought about this because it does get entirely too hot in my area and I can see this happening if the duck actually stayed on the eggs all the time down here.Depends on where you live and where the duck made a nest. I've had some ducks make their nests out in areas that weren't well shaded and I recall finding some eggs with shell temps over 105 degrees, so I think this could apply to broody incubated eggs too.![]()

Doesn't have to get that hot. Ever walked barefoot on concrete that's been in direct sunlight?Does it get that hot in North Carolina?
I really don't know.![]()
And that is probably what happened to my 4 eggs that Speedy was trying to hatch this summer.True, I guess I should have thought about this because it does get entirely too hot in my area and I can see this happening if the duck actually stayed on the eggs all the time down here.
Thanks!
