Hi I am fairly new to raising ducklings domestically.

I adopted four ducklings as I wasnt happy about their living situation.

They are all amazing, each with a personality.

Over the past couple of days I noticed they all sneeze, with runny noses, little to zero coughing, but mostly the congested noses.
I let them dunk their heads to clean it but they mostly need my help or my husbands help to drain their noses.

I dont know if I need an antibiotic but I am scared and worried I dont know what to do.
One has little cheeks or so I thought, but today after pool time, another one got her cheek to what it looks like when humen get congested, all puffy.

What do I do? Please help

In my city, there are no poultry nor duckling specialized vets. Only cats and dogs. Veterinary experts are rare here if there are any. So thats probably not an option.

The little ones seem uncomfortable unless im holding them. One keeps whining until shes with me.

I have vitamin B complex but other than that nothing.

What do I need to buy?

How old are the ducklings? As they all have the symptoms together, it sounds like it is a respiratory infection. We dont have medicines if it is viral: all you can do is enurethey drink and eat and clean their nose (and eyes with saltwater if the eyes discharge or become crusted)

If it is bacterial you can buy Baytril 10% solution on line. Allbirdproducts.com
The dose is 0.1ml per KG weight that your ducklings aren't likely to be anything like 1kg and so you will have to buy a plastic dosing syringe that comes graduated in 0.01 segments. Use the dosing syringe (no needle) to
Drop the dose into the ducks mouth. You must hold the bill operand drop the liquid to one side of the tongue so that it doesn't get into the windpipe

It doesn't spund like a fungal infection. But Baytril won't work for that.

Most importantly keep the ducks hydrated and we'll fed. Tempt them to eat with mealworms or scrambled egg if they are reluctant to eat and dissolve their crumbles/pellets in warm water to make very runny ducky soup as that is easier to eat than dry crumbles/pellets

Hi Ruth, Thank you so much for replying!

they are about 3 weeks old. open apetite thankfully well hydrated too but the congestion keeps getting worse.
i have Augmantine and Neomycin. would any of them work?

They love cerelac and i have feed that i mix with water for them.

Neither augmentin ( which increases potency of amoxycillin) nor neomycin are suitable. Clavamox is the veterinary equivalent of Augmentin for humans, but is a different formulation.

If the ducklings are running round, eating and drinking, they are not seriously ill as I think they would be by now with a bacterial infection

What bedding are your ducklings running around in? Is it dusty? Fine pine shavings are too dusty for ducklings l. Cedar shaving give off chemicals in the aroma that are poisonous

Can you take a photograph showing a mucusy duckling and post it?

One vet prescribed Amoxivet 20%

I have changing pads underneath and change it regularly around the clock no shavings

I am not home at the moment. Congested nose sounds bad like if we get a bad flu they can barely breath no panting thankfully but clogged nose and clear to light green mucus with puffy cheeks/under eyes

Here is info on safely giving meds
https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...ering-oral-medications-to-all-poultry-.73335/. Also Vet RX might help them breathe better until the Baytril arrives.
That def sounds like Respiratory sinus infection. Are they on the Amoxivet now?
Hi Miss Lydia Thank you so much for this

I started them on amoxivet and they seem to get slightly better with the breathing from nose part still not a complete improvement. Im also giving them b complex but I ordered multi vitamins

However, one of them started tilting her neck and spin in circles? Which scared me for her poor thing and now she is pooping weird green color. She did the spinning thing twice at first I thought a bug in her ear or nose but she relaxed when I hugged her and slept but I dont know what is that.

No one else is doing it and now they sleep far from her sometimes and its worrying me. Should I separate her from them? I am so worried I dont want to lose any of them they are my babies

Is this little one eating and drinking? What brand of multi vits? There is one called Poultry cell that is really good and may help the one with head tilting and spining. Vitamin E along with the Bcomplex scramble an egg chop it up fine for ducklings and put the vitamin E [prick the gel cap] mixed into it or put it slowly right inside of the bill. But you want this duckling to get the whole dose of vit E and the Liquid B complex so feed it separately from the rest. The others can have the liquid B complex and also scrambled egg you just want this duckling to have it's own. Put some chick grit out for them in a separate container than their feed if you decided to feed anything other than their starter.
