I've been reading - as I'm sure all of us have - about the avian bird flu precautions. We have had a case in 2 counties around us each but nothing in our immediate area has been reported. I was going to take "the girls" outside as it is 82 degrees and absolutely gorgeous - in an effort to start getting them acclimated to the outdoors and cure some of their boredom. I've put perches, hung kale, hung a mirror, play with them but they are beginning to get antsy as 4 week old chicks will do & I actually do have other things to do to make $ to pay for their food :D What would be y'alls suggestions? Should I forego the field trip for now?

We are in the process of getting lumber needed to put a cover on their run/coop area but it is open air at the moment. My logic is even if we wait until the cover is on to take them out - its been open this entire time.... so what would actually be the difference or am I missing something here? (It wouldn't be the first and probably not the last 😉

TIA & I pray - as I believe - that all of your flocks are kept healthy and this daggone flu thing runs its course and goes away.

Keep them from being in contact with wild birds and you'll be fine. I take mine out for routine field trips starting at like 3 days old.

Where in NC? I'm out Asheville way and thankfully haven't seen it heard of any cases on this half of the state yet. Still building a run with a roof!
