400 chickens STOLEN!

What a sad state of affairs,
that there are some people that can do such a thing to take someones liveli hood away. Sorry for you neighbors loss , maybe insurance will help recoop some monies.
I would call the Business where they were bought from, maybe
they can help, with having the police report.to show them.
at least let them know what happened.
they may not be aware
but have some
workers that arent on the up& up.and are making extra money
in dirtydeals.and above all call the newspapers
and get all the
publicity you can..

I know how it feels. I havent had any chickens stolen but the neighboor kid has come into our coop and stolen eggs.

We know it is him because

1. The fence he hopped over is broken

2. He has trespassed for no reason except in the middle of a rain storm he came out onto our dock?? weirdo

3. I left an egg in the coop one day while I knew he was home and it disappeared in 2 hours.

I am thinking about putting a baby moitor out there because the door is framed weird so i cant put a lock on it. Next time he comes onto our property, we are calling the cops.

Also, i had a friend over one day. We were out fishing and a rock landed in our pond then another right in front of me. I asked my friend if he saw anybody. "No" he said. I saw a body and ran towards him and started yelling. Then told my dad and my dad went searching for him. Suprisingly his parents werent home

Could it be the kid is just hungry or do you think he is up to mischief? For eveyone concidering padlocks, baby monitors sounds like a good idea too. A padlock will only keep honest people honest. A professional crook this will only slow them down for a few minutes if that long. Also I'm sure there are some enexpensive alarms that could be attached to the door to make enough noise to maybe detour the crook. Cameras even if they are fake sounds good to me.

As mad as I have been at my dog for hurting my Sadie at least when someone is around they let me know. I live in the country and there is a lot of stealing going on but I don't have anything stolen.

Honestly with this econemy...Its not a surprise that people are stealing more and more.
Sad that they had to steal that poor womans 400 birds.
It is rubbing me the wrong way, just because I cant even get into my coop without somebody makeing a noise

Sad that I even have to use expensive cameras to keep my birds safe. But Id rather spend the money then cry my eyes out.

I feel for that woman, Hopefully they can find something and get those chicken stealers in jail before somebody else gets screwed over.

Just to say I have had people stop at my house and tell me to GIVE them chickens.

It makes me so mad....as if!..."I am asking 1000 dollars each for them". That makes them leave real fast after I say that.

Sounds like the kid is causeing some mischief.
And he might try to go even further and steal one of your birds.
A thief always starts as something small, As soon as they get bigger then they move to the big stuff...something we all dont want.......
Have you had the chance to speak to his parents?
You need to sit down and have a talk with them and the boy.

Maybe if he knew he got caught and his parents gave him the evil eye then he might stop.

Oh yes and give him a hint if the stealing doesnt stop then you will cal the police.
Then he might rethink what he has done.

An alarm sounds like an excellent idea. Maybe you could stick a webcam out there instead. They dont cost as much. But you would have to leave a small light on to catch any movement.

Hopefully it works out for you.

UK seems to have some strange law and order issues, for example, how they deal with squatters rights. However, the UK doesn't have a lock on such matters. We in the USA hear of some unfair rulings. Recently, a man, the next door neighbor, was acquitted of double murder in Nashville even though his DNA and bloody finger prints were on the knife. In our rural area, meth is a huge problem, and now theft. No one is stealing because of hunger, it seems. Often the victim is twice a victim; once by the perpetrator and then by justice. Sad! My sympathy goes out to this poor woman.

Your so right Countrylady, we do have some rather odd laws, whereby the victim is often made to feel as though they are the "perp" there are a lot of people campaigning for justice for the victims, our laws are I believe too soft on those that commit crime......If you can't do the time, don't do the crime...BUT more often than not the prisons here give them more luxury than they would have at home!!!! The law is an a@@.......but I must not get on my soapbox, having been a victim of crime! and the law let them off even thought the consultant at the hospital said he would testify to my injuries!!!! arghhhhhhhh Why there word against mine, I was one alone and they where four........UK law needs a kick in the butt big time.....and I don't want to hear all the usual rubbish about.....low achievers in school etc etc..everyone knows the difference between right or wrong irrespective of your families circumstances....oh dear stepping down ....getting mad now...x
