May they be pecked to death by their loot!

Truly, when I hear of almost any crime's happening in England, I am always astounded. I know this is REALLY naivete on my part, but I always think of England as being the most civilized society on the planet with a population of people who are all well mannered. Even when I'm there and read the papers, I'm astounded to read of hear of a crime's being committed.

That is truly pathetic. To completely take away someone's livelihood.

How did they EVER take all those chickens without making a huge ruckus? You would think the chickens would have caused quite a stir.

So sorry to hear about your frined, EC. Take care of your chickens!

Thanks everyone for the replies. I think the reason why the owner didn't hear anything is because her girlies are not close enough to the house, her hen sheds are in the field (she has a smallholding), and with double glazing in the house, you tend not to hear much of what is going on outside. it sounds to me as though they are professional animal thieves who have no doubt done this before. It disgusts me that people would steal someone's elses livelihood for the sake of a quick "buck" in chicken meat.

The police believe that they have been transported to the Chinese restaurants in Birmingham.

Those poor girlies.......

That's truly nice of you to say Joe, would agree that England for the most part is a wonderful place to live. BUT the petty crimes are on the up and up, even more so at this time of the year.

I second that Rte 66, and may they get E.coli and salmonella to boot!

If it were me, I'd be looking into the company that delivered the 400 hens. They knew the location & the lay out. And they probably knew of other customers, too.

My peeps have had padlocks on their coops from day one. Easy to maintain and we live in a neighborhood with foolish tweens & teens. When we planned for predators we planned for the 2-legged variety as well.

I hope the lady who lost them has a positive resolution. I'd take this story to the papers! Maybe someone saw something and doesn't realize they have a good lead on solving the case.
