4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

I got them!!! My mystery eggs have arrived!!! They are all in good shape, but they are COLD... Hopefully they are not frozen. I'll let them warm up a bit, then candle them. They should have plenty of time to warm to room temp before noon... 1hr 45min to go!!!

So glad they got to you in time!

Reminded me that folks who are hatching for the first time might not realize that eggs at room temp (70* or so) are about 30 degrees colder than the incubator. After you set the eggs the temp will drop in your incubator and will take a few hours to warm back up, this is normal.

Morning all, had to box four more boxes of eggs to get out today and prep bird boxes for geese we have to send next week. PLUS get the eggs ready in racks for todays setting.

humid (no muggy) and very warm here in FL today, was looking forward to winter mid 70's but no dice.

Tell me about it. My humidity has been running in the high 30's low 40's for weeks now. I just went to make sure everything was good for today's set and now the temp is right on but the humidity is in the 50's with no water in the bator at all....ARGGGGGG

running out and getting last minuet eggs that were layed this morning for my hens ! eeek!!!
incubator is running at 99.5-100.0, humidity was low so boosting it up! Still don't know how i am going to fit my thermometer in the incubatory ! HELp

Can someone explain a couple of things about this NYD thing? What's this about pictures of eggs set and pictures of the first chick with an atomic clock in the same picture? And how do I do that?
I currently have 32 eggs in there from previous sets and a separate tray with 38 to 40 additional going in at noon.

I'm not technically challenged but I'm not clear on this. I have to admit I didn't read all the posts if this was already explained.

Fifteen minutes to go and only one girl laid her egg so far. Still waiting on four more girlies! My one turkey hen has been nesting around, so who knows if she'll start to lay or not. Obviously not in time for NYD (would've had to set them awhile ago), but it'll still be exciting to get my first turkey egg! I have a decent amount of eggs to go in though, plus the duck eggs that were set last week. Even my little silkie/ameraucana girl started laying in time to get some of her eggs in for the NYD hatch! :D

No clock needed to set the eggs, just take a pic of the eggs and submit it. When NYD rolls around, THEN if you want to try for the first chick hatched, you have to take a picture of the wet chick and a picture of the atomic clock. It's going on honors system, since it's so difficult to get a picture of an atomic clock and a chick in the bator in the same pic! I could've used my cell phone as an atomic clock, but unfortunately, my camera charger is missing in action, so I have to use my phone as the camera!
