The email that ideal sent about the shipment of chicks went to the junk emails so I didn't see it. Apparently they were shipped yesterday instead of today like they were supposed too and there is no tracking information. Not to mention ideal is closed now. They should arrive tomorrow after being on trucks for 2 days with temperatures below 0 degrees. All I can do is pray.

And here I thought I had it all figured out....

Hi NYDH folks,

My 2 NYDH chicks are doing well, have gotten huge, are almost totally feathered out - the pure Maran has a stripe of tiny feathers down each leg.

I have a Question -- I've got another round of eggs in the bator (yep, addicted, guilty) Day 18 , & one of the Duck eggs looks maybe to be TWINS??!!
I've never had a double yolk duck eggs (these are not from my ducks, they are pure Welsh Harlequin)

When I candled Day 10 I saw 2 black spots, looked odd but I kind decided it was just a trick of the light.
Day 17 , last night, 2 distinct moving blobs, which appear to move independently, & look diff. than the other 5 duck eggs.
?? Is that twins??

I watched the twin chick video Sally Sunshine put up here during the NYDH, anyone have anything else to add? This is *ducks* so anything different?

Thanks!
Wow, It would be super cool if you can get them to hatch! Good luck!!

I think you need to start documenting and taking pictures..or even a video of the double movement.
Eggcelent idea! If you can, of course, we're all busy, but it'd be really cool!
We finally have a winner for the contest, how many chicks will the chairs hatch. We had 115 hatch

1st place Tazcat70 guessed 126.
Debs_Flock and Aschenfire both guessed 127. Aschenfire won the tie breaker guessing the breed of the first chick. Congratulations.
Congratulations!!!

Hope this helps warm Y'all up!!
I wish I knew how to take such beautiful pictures! That's really cool! (and yes, I feel warmer already or maybe that was the soup....?)
Dang!!!!!!! So close!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, congratulations to the winners!!!

LOL, Love those!!! Too cute!
Soy is ok if you ferment your feed, otherwise too much is toxic.
Oh, good to know, and good I'm fermenting now!

You know, those boxes have holes all over 'em, the chicks are peeping loudly, I can't imagine a heartless postal worker who would leave them in a truck or not take personal care of them! The people at my post office were very active in taking care of my order when I got some from ideal. Don't fret too much, I bet they'll be ok!

Hello BYC 'ers, I have another question for all you experienced chicken raisers. I was wanting to know how and is it to cold to ship 10 month old birds.I am interested in buying some in Nebraska and they will be shipped to me which I live in Ga. 1300 miles differnce.
Is it worth it? I do not want to buy any and have the perish on route. They said they ship birds. So really I am just researching and asking people who have and do ship live grown birds. Thanks for your knowledge. This is one reason I love BYC forums. So many of you guys out there and so much experience.

Check with USPS. I have read posts that say they have a system to tell if it is save to ship animals on the route the shipment will take.

Enjoy the new chickens!

Hi Sally!

For those still posting here, this thread will not be the best place to ask questions now. Not too many will be subscribed to it anymore, so questions about hatching and etc. should be posted in, for example, incubation and hatching.

Health should go to the emergencies Section.

If you click on home and then forum and then raising backyard chickens, you will see the major sections of the forum.

Well my chicks showed up yesterday morning and there were only 4 DOA, I have 51 very active and healthy chicks! I'll have to post pictures later, they are adorable. There is a really good assortment of colors too. I was so worried with temperatures below 0, but everything worked out great. Those 4 chicks could have died from anything such as simply being too weak or getting smothered.
