Have you looked to see if your hens have gotten their bootys stained with something?

A few of my gals who are just horrible meanies that like to pick on each other around the tail feathers, in an effort to stop them I used blu-kote to paint them and was hoping it might discourage their behavior. I kinda forgot about it until the purple spotted eggs started showing up in the nests. Sure enough just from them rubbing around on things they managed to stain the eggs.

Don't know if that is what is going on with your Freddie the Freeloader (love that name) and other gal but you might want to rule it out.

I've been lucky in not having any picking going on. I had thought of them rubbing against something, but there's nothing purple or even blue in color they could have gotten into. I thought about mould a bit ago, but the eggs hadn't been out there long (2 hours max) and the color doesn't rub or wash off.

Now that I think about it, it's more the color of lavender project eggs, but I have none and Jazzy and the 2 RIR girls are hatchery stock.

Hmm I guess you could go look up all the little chickens skirts and make sure they arnt dyinging there nether parts for some wierd chicken social thing , I suggest a "Probe free zone" t shirt if your afraid of an alien egg take over.

In all seriousness , I might just check there vents and see if they some how got soemthing on themsleves and besides that check around there entire incloser or free range area and see if there is anything there they could be eating or sitting on ? Hopefully some one can think of something.

Nah. They're under guard and they all know that if they do something stupid, they get stuck in the hole and could get crap added so they have to stay in prison longer. In fact, they're not even allowed to talk to me, lol. As far as escapees, ha! If you were a prisoner who escaped prison, would you stick around on prison property and go to the Major's house, or would you beat arse to get as far away from the prison as possible? In all reality, we kind of have our own little security system here. My birds are my first alert system, but we also have patrol here from the prison as well.

No additional questions or anything...did I have a glitch & miss filling out something more detailed?

Your in, Nothing more to do until set day......MY BAD, you chat which is what is so fun. It is starting to move fast. In 12 hours you could be about 65 post behind.

I need some clarity.

I've been planning this hatch-a-long for several weeks. Keeping up on reading the posts (or trying to as it seems there are several pages added from morning to night) and when I read the first official rules there was nothing saying to set the eggs at local time of 12pm (in my case I'm hatching Turkey eggs and put them in on the 4th). So I symbolically set mine at midnight. Considering I solo run my little farm staying up to midnight was a pretty big deal!

Now after I posted I've gone back to read and someone said I wasn't suppose to set till 12pm local time? So are my turkey eggs now disqualified out of the hatch a long? I really don't remember seeing that as part of the rules when they first came out or I would of waited obviously till 12pm. Iike I said I've tried keeping up with the new posts and never thought about going back to look at page 1.

I'm trying to get my hens to cooperate and lay some chicken eggs as well so I can add them in for the 11th which now obviously will be put in at 12pm local time.

No, the noon thing is for the first chick to hatch on NYD. You can still take part with the chicken eggs.

Glad you did, you will have fun, lot's of friendships to make, and you will probably find peeps that leave very close to you. I've met a couple.

My new hova bator genesis just arrived, and it looks amazing. I can not wait to start hatching!

I'm also just now realizing that next week is finals week, hopefully I'll be able to keep up with you guys.

Well I hope someone knows whats going on there cuase thats weird and I have never heard of that befor brown speckles on some breeds of eggs but never purple

, Maybe you have aliens assimlateing your chickens and you will hatch chicks with tenticles from the eggs

I've had some of those before it usually happens on brown eggs.

Okay everyone who owns dogs (which I'm pretty sure most on here do) Please clean you dogs teeth or the poor babies, will get yucky teeth. Your vet can even do this. If anyone has had a rotten tooth and knows what kind of pain is involved, being worse then child birth, because it is no stop, until it gets fixed or ripped out of your mouth. Here is what was removed from my poor pitbull/lab mix

Now I've been almost in tears for an hour since he's came home, because the poor baby is doing nothing but crying and looking for water and food, and we can't give him any until 9pm. he still has 4 1/2 hours left it is killing me, you just want to give it to him, but don't want to clean up puke. The small piece, at the bottom was a tooth.

You know there is also Bones and Better food what do you have your pup on ?
If your boy gets good food , dog bones , safeway has some very nice Ox tails and so does freddies . You can use turkey Necks too ALL RAW.
the chewing will clean your dogs/puppies teeth.


a good diet can also help. too much sugar in a dogs food can cause just as much dekay as in humans

and if your animal is inbred same thing Teeth seem to be the first sign then legs and hips.

Bwahaha! We live at the prison. He's major there, so he kind of has to be close. If something goes wrong, he has to be on call 24/7, so living on grounds is easiest. Of course, they're remodeling this house and we are going to be putting an offer in on a new house that's still close, but will be our own. 4 acres of grass and no inmates to mow the lawn... I'm suspecting that'll be enough of an excuse to turn a lot of it into a garden and such, lol.

No way to mow and your thinking garden?....no no no! Think bigger! I vote COW!

LOL! Apparently you didn't see the post about how I had "snuck" home a lamb... Lol. HOWEVER, I am still trying to get swaps and stuff to get some more sebastopol geese eggs in the spring. I think that's the best I can do as far as a grass eating critter, lol.

Well, maybe they don't? Geese eat grass, so I assumed sebbies did just like other geese? LOL! If they don't, just don't let the big G know that they don't, lol!
