4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

I just checked them. My flashlight isn't very good, but almost all of them have at least dislocated air cells, and at least 2 have ruptured air cells. Two I couldn't tell, so maybe they are ok.

They will have a few days to "rest" so instead of turning them while I wait, I am just going to leave them small side down in the carton. Maybe most will reattach.
I had planned on laying them on their side when incubating (I don't have a turner). Would I be better off leaving them in the carton, and prop up one side and turn them that way instead? Just thinking that would keep the air cell on top, so when the chick grows into it, it is in the right spot? Or am I over thinking this?

Thanks for all your help!

i had some eggs that got sent to me with terrible air cells. pretty much half the egg side was air and it moved around. But yesterday, she hatched! so give them a chance :)

Gosh, no kidding. This whole site is a great distraction (especially this hatch along). I have way to much to do with finals being next week, and I have an 8+ page research paper due tonight, but I always seem to make time to hang out on here, hahaha.

I really want one of these

ROFL, I'm stuck watching too, and supposed to be picking my kids up at school! Lots of activity there, hate to miss any of it!

Give the eggs with ruptured air cells a chance, odds are greatly against them, but you never know. Yes, don't turn them while storing so that the air cells have a chance to reattach. For incubating, when a lot of mine have bad air cells, I leave them in the cartons and prop up one of the sides like you mentioned. It helps keep air the air sacs at the large end of the egg. Not only will it be better for eggs with bad air cells, but it will also be easier than hand turning each one. Good Luck!

So I put my serama eggs in the tiny refrigerator in my daughter's room last night to store them, and when I took them out this morning, they felt so cold!!! So I stuck my thermostat in there, and it's only 46 degrees F with 41 percent humidity, so that's good right? I really want these guys to hatch!!!
