4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

th

NYD Hatch-along Digest for 12/14 to 12/15
Statistics: All number one!

We are in the waiting phase of the hatch with 17 days to go. Many of us are neglecting our families, Christmas and other duties because the hatch has taken all of our attention.

Themes for today were: Candling, fertility, Celebrity look a likes, cute babies, waiting and contests. Ducks were a bit less of a theme and Quail took over a bit.

Michaelf has candled hatching eggs from DMrippy. He says they are fertile!(developing?)

Oddly, after the discussion about setting way too many eggs, Brechin is hoping for another box to be on her doorstep! Later we found out that those eggs were indeed there! Setting them before the deadline was asked about.

MarineCorpFarmr has 4 acres and is moving to 60 acres. Chiqita has 1/2 of an acre. TMNfarm has 25 acres. The land belonged to her late husband(my condolences)

mrheinz77 has a temper(I can relate--my last name is Ottman after all). He is not a teacher because someone from Oz messed that up!

Finally caught up.

Freezer camp was open today for visitors.
Too bad they checked into the Hotel California.
They checked out but were not able to leave.

Today's visitor was a low count.
Sent invitations to 9 large, buff, tasty, young roos.
Sure hope they come by for a visit.
As a matter of fact I am offering them FREE transportation.

They will become some very nice Christmas presents.

@ Raz, send Red on over there is always room for one more guest in the camp er a hotel.

If someone gets time, can we please add a THANK YOU THREAD so we can all post our thoughts for all you elves and all the donators helpers and such too????

Woohoo! Look what I got today! Weighs 586g, letting it rest overnight then in the bator it goes. Hopefully I'll have a Emu chick around the first of Feb

(next to it is a chicken egg)
That's just plain cool!

I'd LOVE to hatch an Emu only I know I'd become afraid of it after it passed 3' tall! LOL

Tonight the kids got to hand off the presents that they bought to a "Santa" who will be delivering them to the kids. The kids realize that they had to think, not of what THEY wanted for Christmas, but what these poor kids might want. I am so blessed to see my kids bless others, without thinking, "we could have done" or 'we could have had"! This is a great day!

Tomorrow we will try to candle...fingers crossed.

Also, Thank you ronott1 for the cheers, I showed the kids, they smiled!
That's really sweet!
looks like two of the silkies died on day three,

I feel for you, out of 19 eggs, only two are developing here

Candled my eggies. So far I can see all 6 BLRW developing STRONG!! A few Basque eggs have veining, a few Wheaten Marans are developing (the others are still too dark for me to see clearly), and I think A FEW OF THE WEST COAST TREKKING EGGS ARE DEVELOPING!! These are the eggs that accidentally got sent from CA to AK to CA again. These are Lemon Blue Bantam Cochins and I hope they survive!! WOOHOO!

I just went out the garage and found 7 of my biggest koi dead... Water was is pristine condition, no signs of bacterial incfection, no parasites, no fugal infections, these fish look perfectly healthy other than the fact that they were dead. Only 3 of the koi that were in the garage are still here... These are expensive fish and I'm heartbroken, not to mention that I have no idea what killed them. Sorry that this has nothing to do with chickens or hatching, but this thread is a great place with lots of people who care.

I candled HALF of my eggs a few min ago, All of the Olive eggers and EE are developinig, and 9 out of 16 Silver pencilled Wyandotte eggs are developing. others I can kinda see something, but time will tell.. ive got one out of 4 BLRW developing.

got to go and candle the rest!

Can anyone point me to official info re: date/time of the 2013 Dalton Ga poultry show customarily held "1st wkend in Feb"
Thanks
