4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Sorry to hear about the Koi

I knew someone who was big into them several years ago then something (disease) wipped out nearly 100% across the us in a short timeframe.
I don't know the details but is was something that was spreading out in the world, so ppl's koi would be fine, then dead, w/o outside contact to other koi.
That was 5-10 ish yrs ago (time flies),

Only recently hearing of ppl keeping them again...other than that all I know is they are anywhere from costly to OMG seriously for one fish, ohhhh...

-& on a chicken note - "candled" one more egg (still w/o the granny glasses) saw nothing well saw a lit up clear egg ...

Yeah, I didn't keep koi at that time but I know about it. I can't remember what it was called but it was some sort of virus. It would spread with new fish though and I haven't added any new fish since March. and of course I couldn't have just kept koi from petsmart, I had to go out and buy some expensive breeder koi that were offspring of japenese imports. I still have the ones in my 125 gallon tank, and I found 3 survivers in the garage. I'll bring them in and treat them with antibiotics and hope for the best.

Candled my eggies. So far I can see all 6 BLRW developing STRONG!! A few Basque eggs have veining, a few Wheaten Marans are developing (the others are still too dark for me to see clearly), and I think A FEW OF THE WEST COAST TREKKING EGGS ARE DEVELOPING!! These are the eggs that accidentally got sent from CA to AK to CA again. These are Lemon Blue Bantam Cochins and I hope they survive!! WOOHOO!
That's pretty darn amazing! I hope they hatch!
goodnight all, see you tomorrow
G'night!

I just went out the garage and found 7 of my biggest koi dead... Water was is pristine condition, no signs of bacterial incfection, no parasites, no fugal infections, these fish look perfectly healthy other than the fact that they were dead. Only 3 of the koi that were in the garage are still here... These are expensive fish and I'm heartbroken, not to mention that I have no idea what killed them. Sorry that this has nothing to do with chickens or hatching, but this thread is a great place with lots of people who care.
Oh wow, gosh I'm so sorry! I know nothing about fish, other than Koi are really cool and jump?? I hope the other 3 survive!
I attempted to candle all of the eggs today. There were only about 4 that I definitely could see veining in, but most of them are pretty dark and my incubator took a few days to get up to a decent temp... I'll try really hard to sit on my hands and not candle anymore until Tuesday...
Mine took a while too. I'm trying not to look again. I'm kind of bummed because I only have 2 out of 19 developing :( I'd like to keep looking at them with wishful thinking that some will suddenly grow, or that those I'm pretty sure have blood spots or blood rings start veining, but that's not likely to happen :( My eggs were really shaken up, have multi bubbles inside

Really hope I can bring those 2 to hatching (and adulthood)

I keep repeating myself, but what the heck? LOL
