Mine are on artificial lighting. It's dim, so I leave it on 24/7. They go to bed at dusk and fall asleep, but at 3am, sometimes I hear the roosters making a racket in there, if the BF has the window open.

One of my turkey girls was being a complete IDIOT! I have never had problems with anybody going out into the road, except one cornish cross when I wasn't thinking. I ran to the other side of the road to grab some garbage (I like to keep our section of the road clean) and the cornish cross followed me right into the road. Thankfully, the person coming slammed on the breaks (I was waiting to cross back across the road, I hadn't jumped out in front of him or anything) and the people coming from the other direction stopped as well, so I could collect my crazy chicken and cross the road safely. ANYWAYS, I was up in my soap room and the kids came in, I heard the boys gobbling away, so told the boys to check out the window. Here, one of my hens was standing in the road! I ran down the stairs and straight out the door and scooped her up. Everyone, by now (if they haven't already figured it out) surely knows I'm nuts. Cold, running out there full speed, barefoot and in a t-shirt, no coat, to grab my baby girl. Ugh. Some days, I wonder what the heck the birds are thinking! Not only could she have gotten herself killed, but she's a good 30lb butterball and could've damaged a vehicle as well as possibly causing an accident if someone swerved. :/ Thankfully, we're moving soon and will be fencing the yard in for boys and birds.
Now I know why the chicken crossed the road (It was following her owner!)
Oh where oh where is Sally Sunshine? We are going to offer her a prize since she loves to post A LOT.....

SALLY SUNSHINE, THIS IS FOR YOU!!!! (NOW THAT YOU'RE BACK)
Im so excited !! My silkie rooster (the one in my avatar) is getting his back feathers back!
we went out one day shopping and came home to a coyote running off, he was standing there in our driveway. at first we were all like
ep.gif
cool! and we came inside and put away groceries and such, then suddenly thought 'that was coming from the henhouse'
th.gif
we looked and sure enough found silkie feathers scattered everywhere. we thought for sure he was gone, but kept looking. I kept thinking i heard faint little noises coming from somewhere, but thought i was just losing my mind. hmmm maybe not. After awhile of searching i gave up, and headed in the garage way, and there he was, hiding in the little corner of the garage was this really bloody and ripped up rooster. poor thing.

i took him in and started by putting neosporin and gauze on it, then left for the farm store. I cant remember what we bought, but its this gel stuff that you put on it, and it acts as a fake skin as the new one grows. honestly, i had no hope in his survival. His whole back had two bites taken out, as if being eaten alive, and the skin was off.

all that time he was the one needing to be worried about, he had one goal in mind, and that was to find his girl. he was trying to get away and calling for her, believe it or not, while i was holding him he crowed twice. i went and got her to put with him for the night, it couldnt hurt i thought.

this is a terrible photo of them cuddling together, reasurring eachother it was gonna be okay. and sure enough, it was! that was a month ago, and now he has pin feathers about to sprout some 'fur'

he is such a tough little dude.
Oh gosh, that was such a sweet/heartbreaking story! I swear my Sultans "kiss" each other and cuddle/love each other.
BECAUSE OF HIS COFFIN

You be a funny girl tonight! hee hee hee.
Look! It didn't snow today!! Sunshine. But..the snow didn't melt because it was so cold. Even with the sun out, we still have snow on our trees..it was so beautiful on my way to PT this morning. I took my camera with me after taking pics from my back porch and front porch. Just beautiful!

My coop and run is under there somewhere! Sun! Didn't melt
much though

From my back porch, look close, there is a mountain in
the back ground behind the trees, with clouds on top of it. :)

From front porch, can see the mountain there. Blue sky, after
two days of snow!

On our way to my PT. West mountain, not a real big mountain.
But oh so pretty on our way.

There's a big mountain. The biggest in our valley..Mnt. Timpanogus.
Winter Wonderland. :)
That really is beautiful! Lovely pictures, wow!

You lucky dog you! You must post pictures now!!!! I love those polish, so pretty!

Well I finally removed the infertile eggs. I now have 9 eggs cooking away, but I'm not so sure about 3 of them. I can't wait until spring when I really start loading the incubator and I'm jealous of those of you who already are!

Thanks to the bountiful laying of the ladies, we're eating quiche tonight. I'm making mini quiches in cupcake pans, and making up extras for snacks for the boys and myself.

Does anyone know what kind of chickens these are I found them on the internet but I didnt see where it said what they are.
Beautiful, whatever they are. Gold laced something ... I have a buff laced and a silver laced polish, but this gold is so striking with the black.
These are from BYC members PHAGE and LUVINBLUECHICKENS - they are currently the 6 VERY STRONG developing eggs in my NYD hatch incubator. Talk about EYE CANDY!! These are Blue Laced Red Wyandottes!

Another beautiful colour!

Setting 32 more eggs. I believe after this, I won't be collecting anymore of my own chicken eggs for hatching. So, I have BCM, D'Uccles and sebastopol eggs coming, then button quail eggs, and then the only thing I'll be hatching from here is the pekin duck eggs. I am just trying to think of how I am going to seperate everything, lol. I'm going to have to see if I can find those plastic baskets at the dollar tree and get a few of them, so that I can keep everyone seperate as they hatch. Looks like I'll be hitting the auction here after the new year, to sell off the little brahma mixes I accidentally hatched and any leghorn males (no point in butchering them, if you ask me).
