4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Also, I have a question with humidity. I had eggs shipped to me in which some were set when they were 12 days old and I also set eggs that were only 1 - 2 days old from the nieghbor. The shipped eggs have huge air sacs because they are older and probably delt with low humidity conditions during shipping. My neighbor's eggs air sacs are smaller since they were in the incuabtor almost right away. Does anyone have an idea for compromise between the 2 for correct humidity levels?

My compromise would be in the low 40's. I normally use the dry hatch method for the first 18 days and only add water if it gets into the high 20's. The humidity in my bator normally stays between 36% and 42%. Living in Florida does have some benefits.

That is great! I am always sad when only one hatches.

I hope all 7 hatch for you!
Thanks!

Oh goodness! I hope yours all hatch... I'm down to 7 as well! how many did you start with?

I started with 23. I threw out 6 yesterday, so I am down to 17, but 10 I don't think are developing. Some have dark shells, so maybe I am just not seeing, but 2 that I can see veins in are blue (very dark to see into) but I can still see the veins.

Good Morning Everyone. We are half way there!!!

What's going on inside our chicken eggs - Day 10:
From-Egg-to-Chicken-10.jpg

After the tenth day of incubation, feathers and feather tracts are visible and the beak hardens. At this point if you candle your eggs you can pretty much tell if they are fertile or not. The fertile eggs will have a dark shadow inside while the non-fertile will be clear and look like a Day 1 egg.

Tenth day -- beginning of hardening of beak

Happy Friday morning! :D Thank you God I have next week off. Looking forward to spending time with my wife and boys.I hope everyone stays warm. Here in middle Ga its 31 degrees and 15-20 mile an hour winds. Supposed to get to 27 tonight and 29 tomorrow night. Brrrr.! Everyone have a great day!

My Mom & Dad just left. My wonderful Dad, who was an electrician before he retired, came to my rescue tonight and figured out why I had no lights in my livingroom and no power in my main bathroom... An outlet in my bathroom had shorted out and almost burnt through a wire!!! Scary!

While they were her, I showed my Mom my incubator. I candled a few of my eggs for her and I found a couple of my questionable eggs had movement!! Even one that I thought was clear on Tuesday night had definite movement tonight!! Yay!!! The one I thought was developing a blood ring, definitely had a blood ring, so I pulled it before it could explode. So I'm down to 43 eggs in the bator now, but I added about 4 more to my + column on my chart...

WHEW!!!!! So glad you were able to catch that!! That's my main fear with electrical.

I went thru my eggs last night and the same thing happened for me! I swear they were clear earlier this week, but last night a bunch more were growing. Raised my spirits up nicely :) And we got to show off a swimmer to a couple people for the first time...they were very impressed haha.
