After the tenth day of incubation, feathers and feather tracts are visible and the beak hardens. At this point if you candle your eggs you can pretty much tell if they are fertile or not. The fertile eggs will have a dark shadow inside while the non-fertile will be clear and look like a Day 1 egg.
Anyone else getting this wind!? Good Gawd...weather app says winds are 20-30mph? No way! The rain is sideways, the GLASS 4 ft diameter table top (which had been weighted down) has taken off and smashed all over my deck. Arrrrgh. I will be picking up that glass for the next year

I know that a few are not all dry yet but I keep it about 97 at one spot in the brooder... PLUS 2 Langshan & 6 OE need to go into lockdown by NOON today!! YAY and OMG the cooler bator had a major bleaching early this morning.. drying out and soon ready!
I actually got a great hatch from serama eggs. 7 eggs shipped, an extra day in the mail with freezing temps and a crushed box, and I hatched out 7 baby seramas. Now, I find it funny, because I remember a few years back a buddy of mine wouldn't let me buy any serama eggs since they were too difficult to hatch. It just makes me smile. And, three of them are feather legged. I still have two ducklings working around in the bator. I'm going to have to be careful with duck eggs from now on... Make sure that I don't have anything hatching for three days before the duck eggs are due, since these last two were shrink wrapped in their eggs because of being pipped for so long and having me in and out for serama chicks.
The sad thing is that back when the Mayans made their calendar there was no leap year and daylight savings time. When you take the days thathave been added to the Mayan calendar "today" actually happened over 2 years ago.
Ours will be a quiet one this year. Will just be my Dad and us. Hubby's mom is sick so they won't make it up from Arizona. Weather is supposed to be yucky anyways. Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you, too, Jules. We actually have a possiblity of a white Christmas. That is a very rare occasion here in AR. I've only seen two. One where snow was left over, and one in which it actually snowed on Christmas day.
Also, I have a question with humidity. I had eggs shipped to me in which some were set when they were 12 days old and I also set eggs that were only 1 - 2 days old from the nieghbor. The shipped eggs have huge air sacs because they are older and probably delt with low humidity conditions during shipping. My neighbor's eggs air sacs are smaller since they were in the incuabtor almost right away. Does anyone have an idea for compromise between the 2 for correct humidity levels?

Nope, not in the least. I'm worse every year! At least the tree is standing in the house, but it's waiting for lights and ornaments,
My hubby and I will go out today to shop for Christmas presents for the kids today. And to top it all off, I completely missed Hanukkah! It ended on the 16th I believe! My daughter's friend and our friends celebrate and I always get her something, but didn't this year (yet) I feel awful! Ugh!
BTW, I just learned about Tolbund polish like... a week ago, and thought "how cool, wonder if they're in the US yet?" then all of a sudden I see them everywhere, LOL. They're so awesome, beautiful bird you have there!
