4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Quote: No they were out in the freezing cold last all night I pitched them in the compost, and chased her in the coop to eat and get warmed up. I should go out and check on everyone, but it is cold and windy, really windy, I'm horrible when it comes to wind, not a fan.

Lucky for me, mine has hog panels around it and they are what is anchoring, my kennel down. I bet my birds aren't happy. There is going to be a lot of poop in the coops today and it is not the time to go out and clean them. I can see my stupid turkey out in the middle of the run and not under sheltered top.

Okay a few days ago I said my turkey girl had gone MIA. I was taking my Pyr puppy out to potty early this morning and the turkey girl was perched on the compost bin. Went back out to feed when daylight came and she was gone again and not answering, so I went around clucking still no answer. Then I went around the back side of the garage and there she was on a nest, who's turkey goes broody in the middle of winter, she had 10 eggs under her, I didn't even know she was laying. I took the eggs because of course she wasn't sitting on them all night. She wasn't very happy, so I scooted her along into the run since the storm was getting worse, Will that break her, this is not the time of the year for baby turkeys.
I'm glad you found her, and she's laying!

Yeah but she went broody, so I won't be getting any eggs soon. I hope me making her move off the nest broke her broodiness, and she realized it is winter and not spring.

Since this is the first time we've ever had a turkey and she has decided to start laying; what is the best way to get her to lay her egg somewhere safer and cleaner than the coop floor. Is there a way to build her a nest that she would use in there? Her roommates are my Orps and Barnevelders, who do lay in the current nest boxes.

I feel like all I do on this thread is complain.

But I have one more that is making me furious right now. This is what is getting to me today. http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2012312210004&nclick_check=1

All I can ask is, what chicken laws? We never had any before now so what in the world are they talking about? It says that we've always had a no chickens law, but I searched through literally everything to make sure they never threw one out without anyone knowing. I am so upset about this. To make things worst, there is no zoning map to find out where I stand. Dad's worried about it as well. No one has ever complained about our chickens before (and chances are they never will), but I'm starting to worry about this. I was hoping I would never have to fight the city over my birds and it looks like I'll have to. I am not willing to work with them and get rid of my roosters, and I'm not willing to forget about my plans for slaughtering some of my birds in the long run. If only there was a zoning map so I could find out if this really is something I should be worried about.
