4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

GOOD MORNING!

Check this out... I candled last night, and got TONS of movement in this egg... look at it go! :D
Very cool Jessiey! And glad to hear your eggs finally arrive!

came home from the weekend with relatives, and hovabator was at 96*F.

thought i should candle before I throw them out and glad i did, all but one was dead, so i am hoping he will live!
So they will die if the temp drops that low for a short period? Eek. Mine drops to about 98 regularly. I hope that's not too low. Everyone seems to be still moving.

Huh, good concept. Anyone ever use one?

(Probe embedded in synthetic egg to more accurately determine the likely internal temp of the eggs.)

Very cool.

How I spent some of my day...

Winter ride with the kids!!

My older DS is home for a few days!!! We exchanged gifts today so we don't have to haul all of our stuff out to my Mom & Dad's tomorrow...
I'd love to do that too, but we have company who doesn't ride. Maybe later. Best place to be IMO!

And here is my first egg art entry. It's nothing fancy because I only have pencils right now, but it is what it is. The sad part is that I set it down on the couch while I was uploading the pictures and someone sat on it. At least I have the pictures.

As far as the NYD eggs, I tried not to look at them too long. I only have 5 that still look promising and I didn't even see movement in all of them. 3 that looked great for a while, appear to have died but I haven't removed anyone from todays candling. The incubator feels so empty with such a small hatch.
Fabulous talent! I was going to enter, but now we have company and I barely have time to even read this thread. Another 296 messages to wade through this morning.

We found him in the bush dead. His head is up and his eyes open. He is still there because I am too freaked out to touch him. I am not the type to believe in ghosts or that silly stuff but this creeps me out.
In better news we put an offer in on the house and they accepted. We are getting it for about half the value. We already decided that the ducks would be penned completely to avoid starvation or other strange deaths. I will probably move away from pekins though.
Awww. I'm so sorry you lost your drake :(

I need to find some serious time to figure out how to build a brooder really easy and get a plan for hatch time etc. My humidity has decreased to zero a couple times. Having a really hard time with that because our temp keeps varying by 10-20 degrees celcius every other day. Argh. We are already down from 36 dozen to 11 eggs so I don't want to lose any more. Well, actually, we didn't lose any - those I took out were all unfertilized. I boiled them and fed them to the chickens.

I entered the image below in the SUNNYSIDE UP MICRO FARMS HOLIDAY POULTRY PHOTO CONTEST but I can't find the proper thread to repost it on (originally we were supposed to post on this main thread) ... it seems like the name/contest has changed a bit and now I can only find a contest that is for actual holiday themed photos. I gather this photo isn't suitable then?
Is it too late for pics for these contests? Here is my picture for the SUNNYSIDE UP MICRO FARMS HOLIDAY POULTRY PHOTO CONTEST.
I'm not sure what this means: "and the post number in the comments so we don't miss them."

This is Henrietta, my silver laced Poland hen, out for a walk in the snow on a mild winter's day!

Edited to say sorry - I read much further down the thread that you didn't want us to post on the main thread. Please let me know where to post this.
