4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Good morning !!! The last of my chicks has hatched. I had 23 out 34 eggs hatch:/ 22 are healthy and doing awesome. And 1 died:( So if I count 23 as hatched that is 67% .but if count 22 that are living 64%. Not bad I guess. I usually have an 80% something hatch rate. Time to get ready for church. Will catch up on everything later. Have a hood day folks!

Did I read somewhere that the temps are supposed to be a bit lower during the hatch? Does that mean the whole lockdown, or just when they start to pip?
My darn bator insists on running high, no matter how low I turn it.....
I thought ahead to buy a sponge, but forgot to put it in the bator at lockdown. I'm struggling to get my humidity up. I ran it in the thirties for the 18 days, now I can only get it up to 54%. Is that enough, or should I risk opening the bator long enough to toss in a wet sponge?
I think my humidity is usually around 50% during hatch. I don't babysit my incubator like I should, though.

I'm watching your hatch cam and I'm so jealous, I want my babies to hatch right about NOW, hahaha. And the little button quail that just hatched is such a cutie.

I threw a warm wet sponge in quickly this morning, and I just got back from church and my humidity is 60%... I turned my temp down a bit again, and its sitting at 98* right now... So now I watch and wait...

So far, no pips, no peeps, no rocking.... I know I had 31 live eggs when I put them in...

I took a cat into the layer pen with me a few nights ago where I have a mouse problem. I know there are mice under the one nest so I lifted it up for her. She got the sucker and then ran out showing me the mouse. She followed me around for 15 minutes just dropping the darn thing in front of me. Last night I took her in with me and I didn't need to show her where to go. The problem is I couldn't get her to come out. Finally I looked and she had 7 mice laying all lined up next to each other. I through the mice in a pail and carried her and the pail out and left her be. She insisted on showing me her catch again. I hope she wasn't wanting to share her feast with me.
