Am I missing something?
Im curious to know who won the poultry photo contest, has it been announced and i didnt catch it? it ended three days ago :)

Lets see K names ..
Kermit
Klucky
Krispy
Kindle

B Names
Billy
Beans
Button
Boopers
Beepers

Sorry trying to think of unisex names and thats what came to mind after looking at the pictures.
Those are good ideas, I was trying to think of something New Years related, but came up zero on that theme.

I'm 80% sure K is a girl & B is a boy. From your list I'm leaning towards Billy for B, which if he turns out to be she would be Billie :)

still mulling it all over, they do look healthy enough for names, but don't want to jinx them so no rush on naming...

Just came home from church to find a dead chick in the corner of the brooder...

It looks like it was trampled in the corner... It's little head was bent up along the corner... Poor baby!

They all seemed haelthy when I left this morning...

I am so sorry!

I have had this happen before too.

Where do we input our final hatch? Finally had the last chick hatch, and unfortunately, looks like I get to kill it now.

Cross beak and part of the skull is missing, so the top knot of the skull is to the right and no eye on that side.

I'm so sorry about this too! It's a good idea to "remove" corners of your brooder, I use cardboard packing stuff that comes in rolls (one of the hatcheries has it as a quick brooder builder) and just stick it inside my brooder as an inner wall to eliminate the corners. Really sorry that happened. I'm having so much trouble keeping my brooder at the rigth temperature 'cause the house is getting colder I guess. Luckily they're with me in the bedroom and I wake up when they peep loudly. When I checked on them, the brooder was 84 degrees (shiver!) and one had pasty butt! Ugh, now I'm still dealing with pasty butt though they're both still eating and active. hope it stays that way! They're so sweet!

I hate when that happens! Little chicks are so fragile sometimes it is amazing any of them make it.

I know someone suggested removing the corners and that can help , but I've had them pile and smash one even against round walls!
The one thing I have learned is to be sure the warmest spot, IE under the light is actually not against any walls at all, but more out in
an open area, they are less likely (although not impossible) to crush one in the middle if there are no walls to get trapped against just other chicks.
(But again I've even seen that on occasion, sometime there really is just nothing you can do).
I hope the others stay alive and the paste butt clears and everyone is healthy for you.

A couple of my chicks have chicken poo stuck to their butts. Any suggestions on best way to clean without ripping off their fluff?
