4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Okay, I want to be in! But I am a newbie. I'll have to order eggs from somewhere. If I want to play, when do I need to have them delivered?

I've tried to hatch once and it was a dismal failure. V. sad. I'm feeling more optimistic now tho, since the 6 chicks I got as day-olds have thrived and are now out in the coop. They even follow me around the yard and I've managed to train them to go back into the coop and henhouse at night. They are so cute. 8)

So, back to the egg-thing....I can order some eggs but when should I get them delivered. Apologies if this is a silly question.

this sounds like so much fun!! But I'm scared of having little chicky's in the winter time! I live in Ontario so we have chilly winters!! I hatched chicks last spring, but I really do need more hens!! Would the cost be much higher having chicks in the winter/ keeping them warm and toasty?!? My hens I have now, started laying the end of October, should there eggs be good to hatch by the beginning of December? (all the hens are with roosters). GAHH! talk me into it people.!!!!

4x4 box wrapped in plastic with a chick lamp and your chicks will be fine OUTSIDE. Solves problem #1.

Those eggs have been fertile for a long time and should hatch great! Solves problem #2

I've never done this hatch before and need another newby so STAY and PLAY!

I want in!! As long as my hens continue to lay.
I have a question thou, If i want to incubate duck eggs to, they would have to be started a week earilier. Is that ok as long as their set at same time of day or is this chicken only?
Sorry if its a dumb question.
Also say one hatches after midnight do you have to post picture right away, cause i cant.I only have my phone to get on with. How does this work exactly? Thanks and sorry for all the questions

Have them shipped Dec 7 or 8 so hopefully you get them on the 10th so they can be set on the 11. This is for chicken eggs. For duck, you would want a week sooner.

I need to find eggs to hatch too. Hey Jim!!!! Wanna help me out?? LOL

You know I'd love to help you out. Text me what you want so I can get you written down. I'm starting to get orders for the hatch-along. I'll be sure to include NN just for you.

You want to do it. You only live once, right? I'm in Iowa but it feels like the Artic most winters.

Welcome. Ducks are welcome. You'd set them at noon on the 4th. As for the pictures, the rules will be coming soon but you would need a picture with an official clock and the little one. It just gets posted on the first (I think)

I really need to sit down at my computer and add more to the first post instead of trying to do it all on the go on my phone. If you see me coming, get out of the way because I'm probably on my phone and I'll walk right over you. :lau

so we need to take a picture on set date with a clock and all the eggs right? What other stuff do I need to be aware of. So far sounds easy, but I think I need a few more incubators....

I'M convinced!!! I just need to convince my dad to run a heat lamp for a couple weeks (it's a pretty hard sell)
