4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Well I am officially 'in'. I just am not sure what I am going to set, might just be my own eggs. Might do an experiment and collect for 2 weeks, dating the eggs each day. Then keeping track of any duds and their age as I can't find any studies about how quickly age over 7 days affects hatchability.
That sounds like some very useful information. I am planning to set some as well. I might do two for each day for 2 weeks and join you with some additional data points. If I don't set other eggs then I could bump up to 4 a day so that duds and such gave a better percentage. Of course there are always some duds but it would be good to see the graph of drop off. If we got a few more people we would really have a nice variety of data. Breed might also matter, so we should include as much info as possible. IF you don't mind me joining your experiment.

I might be able to do that as well. But I only have barnyard mix so I won't be able to do certain breeds

I've been told that using a turner for serama eggs is not always a good idea. I'm thinking if I use the turn until day 15-16 and then lay them on their side and continue incubating without turning I should be okay, has anyone done any research.or tried this?

I hatch Serama like a madwoman. I hatch in a Dickey, dry and in the turner. I lock down when they are internally pipped or pipped already ( I always forget )

Yes... you can swap egg with someone or there are swap threads in the chickenstock show and meet up section, the swaps are a chain.. OR there is usually a monthly swap to join. I am sure info will be provided here....keep an eye out. Things get crazy the closer you get to set day. LOL

Ok Thanks This Is My First Hatch-a-Long So I Barely Understand Whats Going On
