5 year old male quail

You can have a bit of our water ^^ My parents live on a farm that's roughly 3 feet above usual ocean level and relatively close to the ocean and every fall and winter it becomes one big mud pool, the groundwater standing so high you can dig a 1-2 ft hole in the field, come back an hour later and it'll be partially filled with water. Guess global warming is making that worse as well, with the rising water levels - and less actual frost, which could have kept the mud at bay. I feel like we haven't had a proper winter for 3 years (if I have not seen snow drifts of at least 2 feet for at least 7 days, it doesn't count as winter) but it could just be random. At least I keep telling myself 'next year we'll have snow for a month or two!'. But in the end I'm happy the winters aren't too hard, as I have both quail and budgies living outside..

I am not a fan of snow or even rain for that matter.

But I do know we need it!! So please DO send some of that wet stuff this way!

And it is actually snowing as I type this!!

We have a dusting already and are expecting 3 or 4 inches over night. Keeping my fingers crossed!!

I would actually like it to snow. I live in Alabama but I love cold weather. I love dressing warm and being warm. I don't like summer to much when it gets to be close to 100 outside and it's uncomfortable. I love animals but I hate bugs. Bees and wasp are summer bugs and I do not like that. New Mexico sound interesting. I haven't been to many states. How is Simon doing today? Does he like seeing the snow?

It has been lightly snowing since yesterday afternoon. A few inches have accumulated, some mooshed down but we are due more this evening.

Yes, I would imagine Alabama has never seen snow? You guys are pretty far south and low in elevation. We don't see those ripping hot temps in the summer that the rest of the southwest sees due to our 7,000 foot elevation. Upper 80's occasional 90 here and there. I hate the heat. LOL Not a fan of freezing either which I am doing now!

Not that many bugs up here, at least the kind that bother you much.

Simon hasn't come out yet, but has been standing at the top of the ramp looking out at the snow. I haven't seen any foot prints in his run, he is not a fan of the snow. LOL

How are your babies today? Any quail lounging around in your bed?

How is the kitten?

Actually I have gotten snow a few times. Last year and years prior we got surprise snow in January and February but not this year. The most we have gotten is sleet. When I got snow a couple years back my elder quail was amazed by it and did not want to step out in it. He is highly spoiled and loves 60 and 70 degree weather. He isn't a fan of the summer either he gets hot easy and doesn't like bumble bees buzzing around him. My crew is doing great today. Salem, my kitten, is also in great. He's only gotten in trouble a few times today so I think today is his good day lol.

You can have our snow.

It's not all that it is cracked up to be! LOL I guess we want what we don't have. I would love to trade weather with you, well in the winter at least. You can KEEP that summer heat you have over there! Ha!

Yes, poultry don't care for snow. Actually my quail always dealt with it much better than my chickens. Often I saw a lot of quail feet prints on the aviary floors after a snow fall. Where as when I open the door to the chicken coop, They peak their heads out the door, take one look outside, and they say..."OH no!...I am not going out THERE today!!" ...as they slowly back away from the door. LOL

Is the kitten behaving today? What sorts of trouble does he get into?

I remember our kittens LOVED climbing the drapes.

What a game they thought they were playing...wild eyes, twisting and turning as they climbed all the way up to the curtain rod.

Summer is rough. I'm not a eat loving girl. I may have my animals but I don't like to be sweaty and hot. I only like summer because I can do a garden. Last year I did tomatoes, broccoli, sunflowers, watermelon, and pumpkins. Home grown food just taste so much better. Well vegetables anyway.

I don't like meat that is killed at home because I usually get attached to that animal. My kitten is a terror. I spend the majority of my day saying SALEM STOP, SALEM GET DOWN,SALEM DON'T DO THAT. Lol he hasn't climbed no drapes but he does like to sit in the windows. So let's begin it the trouble he gets into. I came home one day to discover my smart tv hanging off the tv stand . Luckily it works fine but salem insists he don't know what happened. He has has a love for boxes. Any box he finds he gets in. A cereal box that didn't make it into he trash was a play box for him yesterday. He also loves to get into the 12 pack coke box wheb a few are taken out. I reached one day for a coke and he popped out. He also likes to get in the cabinets where the pots and pans are stored so I have to keep the cabinets closed. The stray chicken I mentioned is the only one he allows over. When I feed hat chicken if more come over then he chases them away. He also got into the underwear drawer and had underwear and socks tore out in the bedroom floor. Yesterday I let him out and an hour later I called for him and he was dragging himself across my porch. I screamed thinking his legs had been hurt or that he was ran over. Once I approach him he jumps up and takes off running. He gave me a scare for no reason just for his humor. If I leave my purse out then he will tear things out of it so he can get inside. He got a hold of my money one day and he went running with it like he had caught a mouse. When he was younger he used to climb onto the kitchen table and I would have to get onto him. When hes day to go for a ride he will go get in his pet carrier and wait. I think you can tell he is a mess. I lo locked him n my car one afternoon. I cleaned my car out and never noticed he had got in. I finished and locked my carand went inside to check on him. Then I looked outside to c him in the front of my car.

X2 on the average lifespan, but they can live to 7 even 8 years of age occasionally. I have a 7 year old Bobwhite male right now and he is still full of interest for hens, however his brother, who passed away last summer of 6 years stopped mating with his mate at age 5 years. Each bird is different in health, attitude, energy levels, etc.... Just like humans they all age at different rates.

But you have obviously taken good care of him if he is 5! It is the higher end of average!!

Must be feeding him Viagra!

I know they can be a handful at this age, but enjoy him being a kitten! They do grow fast and pretty soon they are no longer as frisky. He sounds like a cutie pie! Are you going to get him neutered? This can help calm them down a bit and keep him from wanting to escape all the time. My Skeebie the Lovebird used to get into my purse. LOL She would climb in and play with things inside. I am not sure WHY a little bird wanted in there, LOL but she figured if I was digging around in there, should she, I guess. LOL She was just adorable!!
