5 year old male quail

I do apologize my autocorrect makes me sound like an uneducated hillbilly lol. I never knew salem would be this wild. He is the first inside cat I have had. I always had outside cats and I never experienced any like this. I do enjoy him even though he is wild. He is my baby and that is probably why he is this way. Yes, he is getting neutered soon. The vet I want to use will do it as early as 5 months old. The vet recommended I wait until he is 6 months to ensure he will be able to get everything. Salem turns 6 months around March 23-25. I have other cats in my neighborhood and I don't want him to be bringing in home babies everytime I turn around lol. I love animals just I don't think the other people in he neighborhood would appreciate it if my cat was contributing to kittens. Not everyone wants a litter of kittens. I would hate for them to be left or killed. That is so adorable about your birdy. You never know what your pet will get into. I don't know much about lovebirds and birds of that sort but the way you describe them sounds like fun. They sound like a good pet to have. What all did you do with quail eggs you would collect? I get 14 a week and they add up quick. I know eating them or setting them to hatch is a way to do something with them.

I agree! Cats really should be indoor animals. Too many of them over breed and of course cats get run over a lot. A close friend of mine recently lost a cat to being run over. The animal shelters are full up and many of those poor kitties never find a home! My mom worked for the local humane society when I was growing up she was always bringing home those she knew would never find a home. The house was stuffed with cats.

But we loved them all.

This little Lovebird sure was special. She had a LOT of human interaction and I think she thought she was a tiny human. Ha! I do miss keeping parrots here in the house. I do have my "lap chickens" outside though. They sure are snugglers as well.

I hatched out many of my eggs and had aviaries full of quail. I was addicted to hatching for a while and had to curb it and put the incubators away cause I couldn't stop. LOL

I think it's for the best. If Salem does mate and have kittens once I find out of course I'd want his babies. The local shelter is actually a street over from me and I know they are packed with animals needing a home. I don't want to contribute to that. I don't hatch the eggs I get because I just keep whatever I get at a time. I usually eat the eggs or boil it and give it back to the hens. Someone suggested pickling them but I have no one who would eat it. A) this talk about your lovebirds makes me want a budgie even more. It be a new experience. I only have experience with quail and chickens. I had a pet rooster when I was younger. He to was a lap otter and would come inside for a treat. He lived to b 6 or 7 but he died of a heart attack one 100 degree summer.

Yes, lots of people pickle their quail eggs.

I don't know how anyone eats these things.

I have boiled them up and peeled them, but it is SO much work when I have regular sized chickens laying big eggs. LOL My male quail don't eat much egg but the hens gobbled it up, what with their high need for protein. Eggs are the perfect protein!

I sure to love those indoor house birds. I am not sure how Salem would adjust to having a bird around. LOL You would definitely need to start this affair before he grows any bigger and of course I am not sure I would ever trust the two together. Some cats and dogs are really good around birds. Others not so much.

Snow all melted off as it has been fairly warm for this time of year! We have had such snowy years that the same snow that fell at Thanksgiving is STILL hanging around come early March! LOL Not this year. Not much snow and quite warm.

How is the weather out your way today?

I dislike pickled eggs as well. I don't even know anyone who does eat them. You are right about that. Salem probably won't let me have an inside bird. He is already jealous of my quail. The weather has been annoying. It is 60 and room temperature during the day and 20 and 30 at night. During the day I have to turn my heat off and I let fresh air in and at dark I have to close it all up and turn the heat on. My plants that have come up are confused and dying.

I guess pickled eggs are a taste you must acquire. LOL

Maybe since Salem is ok with the quail for the most part, he would be ok with a parrot? Hard to say. Maybe after he is neutered. Kittens are so wild but as they grow, they do calm down.

Your weather sounds like our weather every day! LOL We normally have 40 degree swings in temp spring, summer, fall and winter. It is hard to garden up here because it can be 80 during the day in the summer, and 40 at night! Shocks the poor plants. I took a look at my Lilac and it has big ol buds on it. So I am hoping it isn't planning on blooming any time soon. Our last frost is late May. Our growing season is short up at this altitude. Less oxygen too!! LOL

What kinds of plants do you have inside and out?

Yes they sure are. I just don't like the look. I think of eyeballs in a jar when I see pickled eggs. As a child I thought that's what they were on he store shelves.lol. Salem is jealous of my quail so if I get a budgie I think it would be a case of Silvestre and tweety lol. I would have to keep the seperate. Salem doesn't even like me feeding the stray cat that comes everyday. Even though this cat is his friend. Inside I have orchids and a burgundy shamrock. I take he shamrock out if it is nice weather. Outside buttercups have bloomed but will get frozen if we keep having this cold.
How is Simon doing?

....eye balls in a jar.

I hear you!! Ha!

Yes, if Salem is jealous, it may not be a good idea to give his love away to a bird! LOL My Maltese dog is like that, very very jealous of his mommy. Gosh, if I swoon over a cute dog picture on line or such places, he comes over and paws at me as if to say, "that one is NOT as cute as me, please look closer at me!!" LOL I have thought about adding another dog or cat to this house, but I am sure he would go nuts with jealousy. LOL

It has been warmer than usual for this time of year and Simon is getting quite feisty and aggressive with me, protecting his area in hopes a hen will come along. LOL It's not going to happen Simon!! However a few of years ago, the guy up the road that has a quail farm....he had a massive escape of Bobs (that I was not aware of) and a few hens did follow the calls from my males. It was the craziest thing cause I went into greenhouse where the quail coop is and out comes a flying Bobwhite hen!! LOL We don't have natural wild Bobs in this area so it really startled me!! Anyway, a few others hung around for over a year and so my males learned that there ARE hens out there. LOL They have all but dissipated or have been killed off as it's been at least a year since I have seen or heard one calling in the distance, so Simon is out of luck! But back to the question, Simon is acting wild these days for his age!

How are things at your place? How is Salem today? Bed snuggling Quail babies?

Salem is the exact same. He gets mad if I talk to the stray cat I feed. I named the stray kitty because he answered to that anyway. Salem could already be fed but he goes and tries to eat kitty's food. Simon is such a cutie I'd love to just pet him or keep him. ...... lol he would have a blast with the 2 hens I have. They aren't bob white but they are pretty girls. Things with me are good today. It's friday. It is like 65 outside and was 30 last night. My bed smuggler was actually in my bed again. She's so sweet she doesn't leave any surprises behind... Simon and my elder junior are complete opposite. Junior loves his single life and doesn't care about the 2 hens I have. Sometimes he will get wild and try to mess with them but mostly he is single. The most he does is lay beside them. How is your day going?
