I set 3 eggs in my little R-com mini. One is an Icelandic from my flock and the other 2 are mixed mutts from the layer flock. One of the mutt eggs has been in the frig for a week, so it will be interesting to see if anything happens. I did not take a picture since I wouldn't qualify for the minimum number of eggs. Good luck everyone!

I love Rcoms

You should take a picture anyways

I'm out. I removed the eggs from the box where the one hen was setting.... and I removed the golf balls because she was setting on those. I'm trying to break her of setting, then will put more golf balls in to encourage them to lay in the boxes again. One is laying in the boxes, and the others had been laying out of the boxes.... We shall see how it goes.

Good luck everyone!

I love my R-coms too. I have the mini which I used in my classroom and I also have a Rcom Pro-20. It is an older model that I bought second hand and had to replace some of the electronic parts. It is easy to use and holds its temperature well.

I've never had the mini but I used an rcom 20 pro and it was awesome. I agree, very easy to use and held temps well. I'll be using an rcom 50 in the spring for larger hatches. Had to get a bigger one

I am sorry!

Was this your first hatch?

now I really cannot wait till hatching time......................
Please Chicken Gods...Let there be little King Henry's..............:fl

I am sorry also for your loss............:hugs
We lost our Mr.Roo just from old age..I cried for what seems like forever.........
He was a big guy....if any young ones tried to mate his girls, he would calmly walk over and bump them off with his shoulder...........
It was very funny and affective...........

Please Chicken Gods, don't let them all be little King Henry's, a few hens would be nice!:lau

I was going to try because we were out of town over Thanksgiving weekend and one of my hens became broody so I was leaving her eggs under her, but she kept moving off the eggs, and keeping golf balls warm.... so I tried removing one golf ball at a time, but then she got sick, so I just decided to wait 'til spring and work with it then.

I don't have an incubator, was hoping to get my hen/s to hatch on their own. Not a big deal, I just decided to try later. Might get a new coop built, and get chicks and keep them separated from this group since these guys appear to be spreading around a respiratory thing.... Every few months, one seems to get kinda sick.... Just trying to keep them healthy so I don't have to cull them.

Last weeks hatch.

3 BBS Orpingtons and 5 Lavender Orpingtons.

From 12 shipped eggs.
1 infertile, one died in the shell after piping, two never piped.
You got to take the good with the bad. I'm happy with the 8 that did make it. :yiipchick
Good luck to all Hatch-A-Long participants! :jumpy

Thought I might have to bow out for a while. Cancelled an order because I was too sick to drive for the eggs

Managed to gather enough at home and pick up one order close to home.
Spent all night up with an unhappy baby (unusual). Husband is out of town so no relief efforts. Was so tired my eyes wouldn't focus so I gave up (yesterday).

Have now decided I might just be a slow starter! My 9 yr-old home sick today on top of extra chaos so... almost ready and realized I forgot to buy distilled water! That was hours ago.

A frantic trip to the feed store for meds as I think my favorite cockerel has a cold. Nothing out of that trip.

A frantic trip to Kohls because it's the Christmas program and my son outgrew his required colored slacks.

Husband home from out of town just in time to take the big kids and leave me with the two littles. SO glad he made it!

This is our first hatch and I'm not going to just plunk the eggs in and turn it on. I want to make sure my thermometers all work right (should have done that - but I was sick!!!

) so it could be tomorrow before these eggs get set!
