We should all do this! Brinsea says: If it does not hatch in a Brinsea, it was not going to hatch. YMMV of course.:fl Humidity increases by an increase of surface area. You do not have to put in less, you need to fill a smaller space. If you you do not have a smaller water channel, use something like this: It fits on the edge of the egg turner in my Genesis 1588. There is a notch in the top of the lid and you fill the water half way up. It is enough to get my Genesis up to 35% for three days or so. If it is a dry time of year, then I will use two of these. If you use the above method, You will be fine. Humidity can go up and down over a day. Humidity controls evaporation of the egg over 18 days. The goal is to get enough space in the air cell for the chick to breath when it pips through the membrane. The is called Internal pip. A day or so later the chick will pip the egg shell and that is external pip. You want the Average humidity to be 35 to 40% for dry incubation.
okay.. thanks for the idea! I'm going to let it get back down to around 20 and put something like this in :)

I'm going to try and reduce my humidity by using the smaller water well. We opened the vent and it maintained 50>60 percent for 2 days. That's a tad high?

What is the difference between dry and wet incubation? Sorry if this is a rerun of previous conversations.

I have the Genesis HB 1588 with the fan. I've read that can dry the chicks out during hatch so I know that I should have much more water at that time.

Who else has an extremely dusty house that never seems to be clean. I have a field in front and in back of me, old carpet (like 20 years old, with BF that thinks there is nothing wrong with it

) 3 dogs, 2 cats and a brooder with 3 chicks in it. But once again BF blames chicks.....really. I have been at the dusting thing for an hour, and it appears as soon as I walk away

Dry incubation is when less then the classic humidity of 55% is used. For me, 35% seems to work best of the first 18 days and the 65 to 75% for the last three days.

And here I was considering moving up there. FORGET THAT!!!!!

Aww come on<<< Not bad if you have an indoor job,:caf ,,HAHHAH Just the opposite of ,,,,say Phoenix in the summer:mad: < HOT>,,You don't stay out in it all day.. Its not the temps..Its the lack of light:idunno ,,For the next 4 weeks we will get about 3 To 4 hours of sun a day,,:sick ,,Kinda dark,,Drive to work in the dark ,,come home in the dark,,LOL :barnie

Sun up around 7 & down at 5 is bad enough!
