She is finally laying down I’m not sure if you can zoom in to see how black and swollen as it is. The band was placed above the joint just a couple of minutes ago cannot afford a vet but when the skin peeled around fit there is absolutely no blood how long after placing a band is it safe to amputate

Try and get a photo of the baby chick leg. With it holding it up no one can see it. You might have to hold its leg and get the picture needed.

Where are you located (state/country)?
The other leg looks like it has damage as well - have you had freezing temperatures?
I would just take a guess and say the chick has suffered from frostbite, but it's hard to know.
imho, the chick is probably in a great deal of pain and you do risk infection when amputating limbs. Quality of life and suffering also needs to be considered. Culling this chick would be the kindest thing to do.

If you are against that, then do you have antibiotics and pain medication you can administer? The chick will require you to take care of it full time, can you do that? It may not completely recover or it's possible it will die. The other leg, the damage is not yet fully seen I suspect. Loss of toes/foot or leg may be in store for the other one as well.

That's not really a humane way to remove a limb if there was an issue to begin with. Bands are for testicles, which aren't held on by bone. It IS possible to remove them. Take a sharp knife to it on the outside very slowly (the band, not the leg). You don't need to get the blade under the band to remove it.

Little birdie needs a vet or a humane death if the leg is too far gone. Chickens only have two legs so I can't imagine a one legged life to be any way to live.

You either need to cull or you need a vet. Amputations are not a layman skill. Period.

EDIT: I also really don't think something like this should be conducted without local and general anesthesia. This isn't like trimming spurs or even castrating cattle, it's cutting the limb off an an animal while it's conscious and fully aware. The shock alone will probably kill it.

Im in agreement to yicken and wyorp, as horible as it might sound, the best thing for this chick, in my opinion, is to put it out of its misery. But if you want to trthen id use a piece of yarn and tie it tight enough to completely stop blood loss before trying it. Also pain meds!!!

I agree. I hope to enjoy raising my 10 chicks, but I have decided not to get too attached and make them pets with names. I went into this expecting to lose a few chicks before adulthood. Sorry for your situation.

I have decided to give her two days I am in Tennessee she has not been in cold weather at all started antibiotics 24 hours ago and pain medication around the clock. What is your suggestion

The most cruel and inhumane act I've ever seen or read about on this forum. You must have to think to exhale if you think this is appropriate and humane treatment. I think a lot of chicks/chickens are are subjected to days and weeks of pain by owners with misguided attempts to save a chicken that should have been culled before it died a miserable death but this act goes beyond any ever attempted.

You lack all respect for life or death.
