6 month old Broody hatching First time Journal

Yeah, the buffs hadn't been laying that much so thoee were my choices... i wish i had better eggs to hatch at the time, I got a whopper of and egg the other day that i thought was a double but it was just a single big yolk and egg white....

I'm hoping something happens..... I've never candled before.....

Well, it's good that you are willing to learn how to do this. By learning how to hatch your own, you can replenish your own flock when need be. The only thing is that the extra boy's are very hard to get rid of.

You can always check for the sign of the fertile bulls-eye in eggs that you crack open, to see how well that either one of your roo's is in fertilizing your eggs. That way when you see that good sign you can put them under your broody or in an incubator.

Oh yes all my eggs have the roo cell

If I get roos I'll put them with china who is my guard chicken

I was thinking by Sunday it will be day 14 shouldn't there be a smell or the hen pushing them out of the clutch? I'm hoping that's a good sign :fl

Great! I'm so glad I have all of you following!

Today I had to be away but I looked in on her before daybreak she was happy, and not hot (yayyy)
I rubbed her cheek goodbye and she didn't growl at me

The CUTEST thing I noticed when I got home at 3 pm she was out bathing I was a bit concerned thinking "Oh no did my journey stop as soon as it started?" But no, the cute thing is she had a SUBSTITUTE sitter :lau

Tigger was sitting on them so Rambita could take a longer break! As soon as Rambita was ready she came in and Tigger left and Rambita went back to sitting! I thought that was really cool

I didn't have the camera bc I had just gotten back and I was busy with refilling puddles and ice
(It was 105 f today)

Also, I got 2 more buff eggs and gave both to her I know the parentage of each egg, bc I know my buffs eggs each has their own "signature"

So now 3 buff eggs and hubby wants me to put 1 ee egg in anyhow he wants a roo like marshmellow

Here are the pics of the buff dad

nice shoot , i like it

Ok today day 13 Rambita was on her morning break so I got down close to the clutch to see if any smelled bad, couldnt smell anything! Hopefully thats a good sign

Got another opinion that I should of rotated the eggs more bc the embryo could be on the other side so tomorrow night I may just candle again, should see something I'm thinking...

Heard opinions that the porous egg could be just fine, and that broody hatches tend to go better than incubator so :fl:jumpy

Day 14

Tonight is the planned Candling

Yesterday evening I noticed lots of feathers on the clutch of eggs and saw Rambita trying to stuff one feather under her.... is this a good sign? I'm thinking yes :)

Marshmellow seems to be supporting her, doesn't try to mate with her on her breaks

I've noticed her clucking she does on breaks annoys some of the girls so they peck her away from them a bit

Bella still lays an egg with her so daily I'm taking out a green egg from the clutch

In a few days I'm setting up the hardware cloth to make a brooder area inside the mansion

I'm still hoping something comes from all of this!
