6 week old chicks pooping ALL blood no stool

Hi, I was wondering if you know if there is a withdrawal for a hen if I use this med. I am hearing there is a permanent ban on hens eggs if given this med..

Hi there!

Yes, I'm aware of the reported ban in laying hens. You can't use it in ACTIVELY laying hens, or within 8 weeks of laying onset. You can use it in chicks, Cockerels and hens that are not laying. Many products are used off label when it comes to backyard chickens, however Bayer is working to change the use of Baycox for laying hens. The proposed ammended guidelines are to only use it 2 days instead of the recommended 3 days and to repeat twice (5 day intervals) instead of the 3 times originally recommended.

I read a study (attached) done by the Australian government that put the withdrawal period for eggs meant for human consumption at 60 days (rounded up from 57) for eggs and 14 days for meat.

Hi @RicGail if you are referring to an egg withdrawal period for Corid (Amprolium/Amprol) there is NO withdrawal period. Where are you hearing there is a permanent ban on using it - do you have links to your sources, I would be interested to read that.
I was speaking of totrazuril not corid. Some people on FB are stating the Corid doesn't cure cocci and using Baycox, (Toltrazuril), which they are telling other people to use with dosage. I researched both Baycox and Toltrazuril and BAYER or Baycox site states don't use on laying hens and Toltrazuril states nothing. I believe it is wrong to suggest a medication that people may buy and not know the after effects. Because of the suggestion from a well known chicken person on FB, INGAVE THE Toltazuril to one of my breeder hens and now I'm afraid to use her for breeding in the future. That makes me sick...

Thanks for clarifying that - you had asked about "this med", so was unsure about what medication you were referring to:)

I believe that @Eggcessive and @Leihamarie have given good information about the Totrazuril. As with anything, it's always best to try to research any information suggested on the internet. A lot of times there is so much out there it hard to keep it all straight.

I don't know much about the breeding aspect, hopefully someone else can chime in - the warnings and withdrawal periods are meant to be observed when consuming eggs and meat. I'm just not sure at all how it would effect hatching eggs after you observe the withdrawal times.
