Hi, I was wondering if you know if there is a withdrawal for a hen if I use this med. I am hearing there is a permanent ban on hens eggs if given this med..
Hi there!
Yes, I'm aware of the reported ban in laying hens. You can't use it in ACTIVELY laying hens, or within 8 weeks of laying onset. You can use it in chicks, Cockerels and hens that are not laying. Many products are used off label when it comes to backyard chickens, however Bayer is working to change the use of Baycox for laying hens. The proposed ammended guidelines are to only use it 2 days instead of the recommended 3 days and to repeat twice (5 day intervals) instead of the 3 times originally recommended.
I read a study (attached) done by the Australian government that put the withdrawal period for eggs meant for human consumption at 60 days (rounded up from 57) for eggs and 14 days for meat.
