So I have two 6 week old BC Marans chicks. I am pretty sure #1 with the clean legs is a cockerel, but not sure about #2.
#1 developed pink comb and wattles almost right away, around 10 days old. He (?) has clean legs.
#2 started showing comb and wattle development in the last week. S/he has heavily feathered legs and feet. Not that THAT makes a difference! :p
They're from the same hatch, same parents. What do you guys think?

Here's #1:

And here's #2, AKA: Lil Peepers

And here's everyone together:

Thanks in advance, and I appreciate your input! :)

I bred FBCM for a few years... those are both indeed cockerels at the stated age.

And that looks to be a devoted mama hen. :love
She truly is!! She had been nearly constantly broody all spring, so I gave in and put 4 fertile eggs under her. Only one hatched (the partridge barnyard mix pullet in the last picture), so I picked up a couple of day old BCM chicks from a local breeder. She is over the moon in love with these babies! :love

I'm told these two Reds were hatched around the same time, (late February, early March.) They are both supposed to be pullets, however, I have a few doubts. Chicken A is smaller than Chicken B but its comb and wattles are more red and and the wattles seem larger. I'm sorry I don't have more pictures that show more of the head and neck areas. Could someone please chime in?

That would be more like 6 months instead of weeks.

We should be able to help you very easily at that age according to feather development which is generally an even more accurate method. However, your pics aren't showing. :pop

Check this out for comparison in *most* breeds... (except Silkie, Seabright, and one other I think)

Hi! :):frowThose are both pullets, and Bird A looks like she's going to start laying soon, if she hasn't already. :D
